An R1 stencil on cars means it's been inspected and had a 10yr life extension. A lot of autoracks were built on old TOFC flats from the early 1970's which put them over their 50 year age limit unless FRA approved. So when the racks are rebuilt, they usually get that R1 on the flat portion. You can also see them on a number of early 70's TTX bulkhead flats.

Hey crafty. Huge fan. I recommend that you should get the NRE Genset, as they're pretty rare and look awesome. Another one I'd recommend is a Trackmobile. They're pretty small and handy for switching. Happy modelling! Tyler's HO NS Layout

Hi crafty great video again. I personally don't like the intermountain auto rack's. I have had a couple over the years. They do look great but as you have stated that the doors are fragile. It seems that they still haven't solved the problem with the doors coming off. I personally think that Atlas Walthers Proto and scale train have the better Auto rack's. You have too much trouble with them. You should try the articulated auto max auto rack's from athearn. They look great but they have their flaws plastic couplers and The rubber bellow in between the 2 cars. If you have to make the auto rack longer to accommodate tighter curves the rubber sometimes gets caught and then causes a derailment.
