Welcome to the International Author Talk with Tom Lin (PO '18), hosted by Pitzer Student Success Initiatives & The Writing Center as part of the 7C I-Week celebration!
In this event, we'll delve into Tom Lin's journey as an international writer and explore the themes of identity and subversion of traditional Western narratives present in his debut novel, "The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu." Set in the 1860s, this captivating tale follows a Chinese American assassin seeking vengeance after his lover is kidnapped by railroad barons and he's forced into constructing the Central Pacific Railroad.
Critics have praised Lin's novel for its fresh perspective, challenging the white-centric lens of classic Westerns, and its profound exploration of identity. Garnering the prestigious 2022 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, Tom Lin made history as the youngest recipient of this esteemed award.
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage with Tom Lin and discover the intricate layers of his groundbreaking work.
