Thanks for the video, it appears that someone installed my tractor's pto coupler in reverse, it worked fine for many years until I hit some rocks with my brush hog. It wasn't engaging the rear pto shaft very much and it is a hollow center shaft and it twisted the end a bit, way too much to even think about sliding that coupler back to that snap ring. So new rear shaft time. Your job may have gone easier for you if you had coupled your shafts and had the pto hooked to something and just put a bar in the pto shaft u joint and let it hang down to put some pressure on the coupler then it wouldn't slide around so easy.

Thanks so much for the video. I have to replace the PTO shaft on my IH B414 as the end sheared off. Anyways, was able to remove the old shaft and new one just arrived. I have struggled with installing the new one, finally removing the lever to get a better view of the lineup. For some reason the coupling that the engage/disengage lever would set in along the PTO shaft is too far forward (toward the engine). It looks very similar to how your video looked at the 17:35 mark of your video. How were you able to get the coupling to slide over the end of the 8 spline end of the PTO shaft, like in the 19:40 mark of your video?

@morganhall9917 Once the teeth are in alignment it should slide right back there, another person maybe could be rotating slightly while you are trying to pry it back. It is much nicer to work on with the fender off, could even remove the tire. I've had the shaft out and took a long piece of ready rod and was able to grab the coupler and I ended hammering it partially onto my slightly twisted inner end of the shaft and ended up running it for months that way, not being able to disengage, I would unhook pto when starting cold, shut tractor off after a bit, rehook pto, and restart, lol. well after one session of running my newly acquired flail mower the coupler slid forward and disengaged and now I've had enough of that setup and so today I am taking the shaft out and ordering a new one to fix it right. You could also go in and grab the coupler like I did and have it on the shaft when you install the shaft, but you wouldn't want to do that if you're that close.

I have the same tractor but it’s a petrol model from 1963. The bolt holding the front of the step is broken off in the casting and I need to extract it. Not a fan of this model as it is hard to get on and off as the step is high and there isn’t much room between the seat and gear shift. Mine has the IH 1550 loader on it too.🇨🇦

That sounds like no fun at all!!!! Drilling and extracting that bolt would be a real challenge.

@@humpty7457: I might try and mig weld a nut to the threads and back it out that way. One or two other small fixes and this machine will be sold and I’ll be keeping my 1985 Massey Ferguson 270 Diesel with Massey Ferguson 236 front end loader (has down pressure).
