Is it possible Talmud was referring to women's head covering to those who are married?

Such an important topic -- much appreciated. One note: younger (under 40) women in my congregation are increasingly demanding that they not be required to wear tallit and head covering when reading Torah or acting as Sha'tz because basically these are garments associated with the construct of male gender, and so requiring them is to demand maleness in exchange for equality, which they refuse. When given an ultimatum, they have sided with "then I won't participate." I'm not saying I endorse this: I'm just saying that this is their clearly stated position.
