The last tractor bought for for my family’s farm was a new 3388. We had a 5 bottom IH plow we had pulled behind the 986 so we bought the kit to add one bottom to it to pull it with the 3388. I think it was 3rd gear low range we ran it with the plow. It had the digital dashboard and extra lights options but not the extra rear fuel tank or rear differential lock. We paid $33,000 for it. There was about 3 IH dealers in S.E. Minnesota that had 2+2’s on hand.

He keeps that tractor so shiny & clean, it must almost be a crime to get dirty. lol That's a very sharp looking tractor & sounds good going across the field too. I've noticed in all of your videos with him & his tractors they are very clean & sharp looking.

IH considered the 2+2 platform to be a future cornerstone of their line up. Unfortunately, IH had deep problems as a company and the ag division was sold to Tenneco(Case). Case did not share IH's vision for the 2+2 and discontinued the line soon after the buy out. The International heavy truck division is still in business(even thought they renamed the company Navistar, International is the branding)

Not that I know of . The only thing I know of that they had a problem with and it wasn't really a problem if the operator greased it was the center pivot pin that the tractor turned on . If not greased properly it would wear bad and required basically splitting the tractor in half to fix again . And early on they had some wiring issues with the cigarette lighter that would or could catch fire.

Case IH should reintroduce the 2+2 as a rubber track version for that mid-range 150-300 hp rowcrop tractors... to compete with the newly released John Deere 4-track rowcrop tractors in that range.

i think that its mainly that they just never caught on and most people have moved away from plowing to either minimum till or no till. I don't beleive that i have ever seen a rollover plow in use in person.
@nibizsw312 жыл бұрын
Yeah but do you have an answer for that because the only downside I can come up with is the price and the weight if it is a mounted plough.

I do not think that it should matter to much but I do know that it will not be possible to put a reversible plow on a tractor without 3pt hitch. But the compaction on the turning place (I dont remember what it is called in English) will be reduced alot.

Is it true that these tractors had serious transmission problems and were discontinued in the IH line because of it? I've always been told that and wondered if anyone knew if it is really true.

Super late to comment. Yeah they had some problems and they quit building them because they IH got bought out, and the new company discontinued the 2 plus 2 line of machinery. Was a pretty bad time for the company in those years.

well you have semi mounted ploughs i think ive actualy seen one that is reversable and the tractor only had a draw bar :P
@Caboosz12 жыл бұрын
well that would be the things i thought abaout, well you allso have most tractors whitout 3pt hitch and only draw bars on them might be a reason, i dont know realy maybe the turonovers dosent co op so good whit theese type of tractors

Why arent US farmers using turnoverplows or whatever they are called in english.

NibiZ_Sw3 W don't see it being very practical. The ones that don't turn are cheaper and easier to fix than the ones that do. And, we're too lazy to stop and back up, we'll just do a big circle across the field and do a bigger headland lol. Also, In America John Deere is making bi-directional ploughs without a second set of furrows, but for whatever reason they don't sell too well.

That cant work well unless it has some kind of stabilising wheels.
