Indoor free flight is the purest form of aero modelling and one of my favourite activities To watch. Almost a zen like calmness about it.

I have no idea why the YT algorith put this on my feed, but I'm not mad. These things are so tranquil. Are these kits or are they build from scratch? How does the scoring by the judges work?
@ramsesdelooff32447 ай бұрын
These are open scale mostly scratchbuilt beauties. There are many different points to score for the static judging, from detailing to color correctness, finish, etc, etc.

Really amazing flights! I can't fathom how that Seaplane (Sunderland?), the multi-engine ones and the jets flew so incredibly slow. (They must be feather-light to fly like that so I'm thinking perhaps some of the construction is primarily made light foam? )
@ramsesdelooff32447 ай бұрын
The beautiful seaplane Short Shetland (by Richard Crossley) is constructed of balsa, a real feather light scale beauty indeed! 👍🏻 The beautiful jet North American FJ1 Fury (by Antonis Alfery) is made of foam indeed, also a real scale beauty! 👍🏻

Are those all custom made by each builder? Or are they from kits? Either way, quite impressive!
Anyone ever played with one of those cheap discount store R/C micro helicopters? Ever tried to fly outdoors in the sun? The light from the sun interferes with the control signal and causes the helicopter to take off vertically out of control.
@ramsesdelooff32447 ай бұрын
Nope sorry, for myself i only fly planes, no helicopters. Besides, in this video they don't have to worry about the sun... but those walls and ceiling are more of a thread 😉 And the planes are free flight, trimmed to this perfection!

@MrZcotty7 ай бұрын
why am i seeing flight corrections? are they rc?
@ramsesdelooff32447 ай бұрын
Nope, all but one of the models are pure free flight. One model has radio in it, but it was not used during flight, thus also free flight for this meeting. Those you see are not flight corrections but reactions of the planes on the "wind displacements" in the hall.
