Honestly you've blown my mind, I remember in history class learning about this legendary machine but we never discussed the workings of it. Although I've seen in other variations of the press small tacks for the paper to rest in so he can make sure it's even every time which is genius. Gutenberg was probably the Leonardo DaVinci of his time and certainly in the printing world. He definitely made the munks lives a lot easier than them spending hours upon hours writing a Bible. I cannot imagine the amount of money he made as well. He also definitely had one of the best mustaches ever ;)

I came here while learning CSS to satisfy my curiousity about the units "em", "pt" used for measuring sizes in CSS styles. Got a much larger appreciation of how far we have come along from our primitive , yet marvelous , feats of engineering to a day where creating new font styles is as simple as writing a simple: font-size: 20em in CSS . That "em" comes from the size of the metallic "M" used in the original metal casted fonts. 😇

I just found your channel and I'm loving it! It's fascinating getting the history of printing and typesetting and seeing how it still influences how we deal with text even today. I also find it interesting that your channel is all about printing and the principles Gutenberg invented but on the modern day Gutenberg press.

Thank you for the video and for all the explanations! Great job keeping the history of letterpress and its origins alive and now for everyone to see here on KZbin. I've commissioned my own version of a 15th-century printing press (one-pull), it's being built now and soon will be ready to print books and help to spread the history of this Mastercraft and how it changed the world. :)

I was given a very very old book that looks to be of religious text. I'm trying to find more information about it. Do you have any guidance?

Not sure what information you are looking for on the book; the video will give you an understanding of how the book was printed. You can search the title on abebooks.com to see if there are other copies for sale from antiquarian booksellers, and in doing so you may come across one of their descriptions of the book.
