Amazon released the new Prime music service this morning, so I decided to see if punk genres were represented at all (very little), and to my dismay and delight, I stumbled across the Tony Sly tribute album in the included library. I heard about it when it released, but forgot to pick a copy up. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you absolutely killed it Ryan! Even though I get the album with my subscription, I was absolutely compelled to buy it knowing that the proceeds benefit Tony's family. I started listening to NUFAN in 8th grade ('96), caught my first show at Warped Tour '98 in New York, saw them every year for five years, and last saw them at a local gig, playing the Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, CA while attending UCal - Santa Cruz in 2002. After college, life got in the way of my weekly punk rock show habit. I had tickets to a show a few years ago and couldn't make it...I always thought I'd see them again...Anyway, beautiful tribute to all involved.

I love piano renditions of punk songs. I think they serve to blur the line a little bit between the raw and refined, potentially exposing people to music they otherwise might not be inclined to listen to, both punkers and non. While there are many string instruments besides guitars, there is something about the piano that sets it apart from the rest.
