This is pretty cool, I think 4g will become a standard backup on more expensive drones, otherwise you're solely at the be mercy of recovering it after a crash or the return home function which will fail if wind currents are too strong

Can you let me know what kind of communication protocol you are using between ground station and drone (web socket)? You mentioned you use a 4G stick on your ground station and one on your drone. But, as far as I know, such mobile internet devices do not allow port forwarding.

Hi, it uses a 6s battery. I got a different powermodule from banggood ratet for 6s. And yes, I think it matters, you risk burning it if you do not change it.

Hi Mr Gulbrandsen, Have you tested the range on this? Also could you use two different networks and join them together using public IP? I want to build a drone that goes to moving objects (Cadet unit) and takes a photo. We already receive longitude and latitude data from GPS units with the unit and I want to program a drone to go and take pictures of them autonomously. This is up to 13km away from the base station. The connection is over internet, so the control range is "unlimited" as long as there is mobile coverage in the area where the drone is flying. In principle, the drone can be controlled from any internet connected PC in the world. I'm not sure of the flight range with this battery, but it can fly up to 45 minutes, and has a cruise speed is around 40km/h, and max around 80km/h

Ole, Is it possible to add a Thin solar flex sheet ontop of the drone spanning the center of all motors below the rotors above the cyhassis? Idea like this on a sunny day - Remote fly, land, charge from solar, fly further! Would work only on sunny days, and without rain, but still is something to consider, maybe even a fold out solar panel to get more sunlight when landed, when flying tucked away, but the top ones i meantioned in te beginning still work when fling to increase range a bit also. Just my 34 cents.

Ole I've built many quadcopters and few octocopters and now I would like to get a 4g connection to control a 20 kg octocopter. I would need to have a cors connection for RTK GNSS, RC control, telemetry and video. Are you using a cors data for your copter?

Add solar panel to the top, under rotor, above chassis. Unlimited daytime flying achieved! (taking into consideration charging/camping time) This would be amazing, just land the drone on a roof somewhere and it recharges, fly further again. Just dont leave it out in the rain. Damn i want this.

Hi. First of all WOW !!!! I am impressed by the low latency and good quality of your video. I build my own quad with raspb and pixhawk that I control also over 4g but for the video I don't find a good solution with raspivid and gstreamer : poor quality and big latency... I had to put in place a local vpn with openvpn because the 4g provider block all ports but the video is unusable. COULD YOU HELP me so how please ?

I don't know what drone jammer is... But I will assume it is a device that creates RF noise that interrupts/overrides/jams the communication between transmitter (Controller/VTX) and receiver (Drone/Video receiver). The drone in this video is running completely on 4g cellular service (what smartphones use). Therefore any RF interference on normal RC bands would not interfere with this particular setup. That said, many governments do have the ability to jam cellular signals which would interfere with communication with this drone.

How do you get around the NAT (Network Adaptor Translator) on the 4G. You can't transfer data to the 4G without a public IP address. So how did you do it???

changed the APN to one that my provider(Telenor) assigns unique public IP's (the APN for my provider is : "internet.public") Most providers have this type of service, but some charge extra for it.

If your provider does not provide an APN that gives you a unique public IP, an alternative is setting up a VPN, this is possible, but I have not tried it

This is what my service provider advertises and I have a sim card with an unrestricted APN...BUT even though it shows an IP address this is not a public IP because it goes through a NAT which will change it.
