Learning that phylogenetically trees 'don't exist' (in the classification sense) messed me up. They are just big versions of other plants. Most of the stone fruits and drupes we eat (think peaches, cherries, nectarines, plums, apricots, apples, pears, quinces, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, etc)? Rose family. Cocoa? Mallow family (think hibiscus, okra, cotton, hollyhock, marshmallow plant). Mimosa? LEGUME. Bananas? In the same order as ginger. Oaks? In the beech family which is order fagacae in the Rosid group meaning it's the weird distant cousin of roses. Like, the amount of plants we eat that are related to roses is WILD. But yeah, phylogenetics is whack and deserves to be made fun of.
