Dengler is one of my favorite bassists and primary influences these days. I've always known he was excellent at writing these melodic, groovy riffs, but when you hear it isolated, wow. It's even more impressive. He really perfected that gothy post-punk sound and totally improved upon on it with so much tastefulness. Very inspirational.

we cannot exatly know what bass used for recording Albums, we know that he used always a j bass in stage, but in studio is different. maybe in some songs used a P bass, or J bass or stingray depending on the song and the tone that the producer wanted to achieve.

@@ZombieDeMierda I've seen them live with Carlos 5 times through TOTBL era until right before he quit. His live tone is identical to me, a bassist. He plays very close to the bridge with the tone knob rolled all the way, through an SVT 300W and an Ampeg 8x10. Your comment is insightful though and always a factor to consider. Anyway a tech21 sansamp DI will emulate this kind of overdriven SVT tone disgustingly well.

Carlos D. Every time I hear any of these isolated bass tracks, I am scratching my head and asking myself what the fuck? His playing was so inconsistent, yet so melodic. He put things where they shouldn’t normally go, perhaps by accident perhaps by design. I know that he has admitted in the past that he’s not a bass player, but maybe that’s just what makes him so great. His baselines always amaze me.

His stuff is really difficult to learn because you’re never gonna play it quite the way he does. He’s got all kinds of staccato notes and sharp transitions that, like you said, don’t make any sense. For a guy who didn’t like the instrument, he sure was a savant at it.

Presumably because it's so niche and specific that you have to be a real fan of this track and/or Interpol to search for isolated tracks, so we're unlikely to come here like "oh no, this is not what I had in mind, i'll give it a thumbs down" :)

It's not manually done, these tracks are available because of GuitarHero. The labels sent the developers the isolated tracks for this song and Obstacle 1.
