What I find really interesting about Interpol is not their lyrics, but their music. I think that critics could not perceive that they are getting closer to what they want. They want to be the sound of decay.

i agree. i think Radiohead has mastered many things that go into performing, and Interpol is very good at all those same things, but they haven't mastered all of them the way Radiohead has. The blokes in Radiohead are some of teh most technically proficient musicians around, they have mastered atmosphere, songwriting, lyrical stylization, and more.

I know what you mean. It's very muted here, which is a shame... mind you, Paul usually doesn't sing this well live, and Daniel's guitar sound often lacks the right bite, so I don't think you can ever get it perfect :/

Uncharacteristically simplistic? I think you hoped that uncharacteristically was a big enough word that we wouldn't knwo what it meant. If something is uncharacteristic it must be in REFERENCE to something. That portion your sentence makes it sound like you're saying that Radiohead are very much unlike Interpol in their simplicity, as though Interpol was the gold standard by which we measure success.
