Dude! You don't know how much this helps me! I have been using excel for over a year with over 900+ cells that I have separated into over 150 data tables. I manually forecasted all of them. My data changes every year, so this is going to help me out SO MUCH!!!

Excellent! I use the OFFSET function in addition to MATCH and FORECAST to do exactly this, but your method of using INDEX works better and is more straightforward. Thanks!

Thanks Wayne. Even if you never need to interpolate, the use of FORECAST may be good for other areas. So it’s good to know what is possible :-)

Hi Mark thanks for the video. Interpolation is something I need to use in most of my spreadsheets (both 1D and 2D) and I have been using VBA functions for years now to get around it. I had been hoping the Microsoft would have included a function for this by now, especially with all the new functions they have released for Office365, but alas no. Your video gave me an idea for a better way of solving this than having to use VBA, as I have never used the FORECAST function before. I have made a little tweak to your solution and instead of using the INDEX function I'm using the OFFSET function which allows you to build arrays: =FORECAST(E2,OFFSET(A1,MATCH(E2,A2:A11,1),1,2),OFFSET(A1,MATCH(E2,A2:A11,1),0,2))
@ExcelOffTheGrid3 жыл бұрын
OFFSET is equivalent to the INDEX method I showed. The only issue with OFFSET Is that depending on where it is in the calculation chain, it can cause slow calculation times. But if it’s running fast enough for you then go with it 💥💥💥

Hi sir nice video but can you please make a video where we have known y value & to find x value.

To achieve that could you just switch the x and y around in the function?

@@ExcelOffTheGrid I have the same question; switching my x and y values would be an issue for me…

@@sanyamishra2825why is that an issue? You are not switching the X and Y on the chart, just in the purposes of the function.

Dear, Thank you for your video, can we make projection from Y axe value to determine the unknown equivalent value on x axe (projection on any curve)

I’m the calculation the X and Y are interchangeable. Then, in the chart, just map then axes to the relevant values.

@ExcelOffTheGrid3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it means you’ve probably missed a comma, or a bracket somewhere a long the line. If you follow the link in the descriptions box. You can get to the blog post. You can copy and paste the formula from there. Then adapt it to your specific cells... that might work. 😀

BUT WHAT IF THE VALUE YOU WANT TO INTERPOALTE IS A Y-VALUE?!?! And you want to find the x-value
@ExcelOffTheGrid2 жыл бұрын
From a formula perspective you can switch the X and Y values to interpolate one over the other. But when you chart the values, just remember to switch them back again.
