So instead of letting word get out that the Polish were incredibly brave the Ministry of Propaganda painted their actions as moronic and futile so that other nations wouldn't fight back against Germany during or after their invasion attempts. This was also before WWII was officially declared, and when Germany was on the warpath absorbing as many countries as they could without pissing off Britain or Russia
