@@blandgreen4135 This scene and the one before show that our primal survival instinct is a double-edge weapon: Mann, in order to survive, explicitly lied about his planet so he could be rescued. His survival instinct caused the entire situation and, even in the end, he tried to lie to himself and to the Endurance's crew about it. Once the Endurance started spinning, though, it was Cooper's extremely risky move that saved the day. Cooper, especially during the Gargantua scene, became a far better man than Mann, both by docking in an extreme scenario, and by actually knowing when to let go.

A robot can be programmed with survival. It will weigh in the risks of doing it or not and choose the most likely path for survival. However survival for a robot may be different from a human, depends on how its programmed.

omfghjkl this was partly (or entirely) applause for the orchestra, since it was the end of a scene.

@@jawa1802 ... and the very human emotion of him succeeding ... heck, I have forgotten how many times I have seen this scene, but it still gets to me because of the sheer emotion ... Nolan, you bloody genius ... if ever there was a Nolan/Zimmer/Deakins collaboration, if that film doesn't win an Oscar, then I will wonder what the hell that award has come to ...

this is one of the main reasons theatres shouldn’t go out of business or be put to the side because of moments like these that can’t be replicated/made at home. legendary. started tearing up a little and getting goosebumps just by the energy.

I was so blessed when this film came out, i was working at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood at the time and had a unique position to leave and watch just this scene over and over. The sound system and shape of the dome creates a special noise no other theater can replicate. Watched it at least 2 times a day for weeks. Even the director Christopher Nolan would sneak in and watch it with the audience because he favored the Dome's sound. But what i find cool is not even Nolan the guy who made it, got to enjoy this scene as many times as me...I'm the only one in the world ^.^

This scene since the movie’s release replaced the 2001: a space odyssey’s scene for “best realistic sci-fi space scene” in cinematic history
@akshay60274 жыл бұрын
That movie was Nolan's inspiration
@nigelft4 жыл бұрын
@@akshay6027 I can make the argument that '2001: A Space Odyssey' is the Great-Grandfather of all Hard Syfi films ever produced since its release. Beforehand you still had great movies, such as 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', but like so many other films, it was stuck purely on this little rock. Even 'Forbidden Planet' was really not that different. But '2001' was the first to take us into the utter void of space, even within our own solar system, which, despite the huge distance between here, and Jupiter (in the novelization, it was Saturn), let alone here to Pluto, that pales in comparison with the vastness of the Milky Way ... ... which is only a mid-sized galaxy in its local cluster of galaxies, which in turn ... In other words, I would argue that without '2001', the inspiration for any movies about interstellar space may not have been ignited, leading to 'Silent Running', 'Saturn 3', and, even, yes, 'Star Wars' itself ...

I remember watching this in theatre when it came out back in India. I remember my dad having his jaw dropped. I remember him enjoying this movie (especially the blackhole scene as he is a HUGE Sci--fi fanatic) and wondering to myself.. why exactly is this so good? I saw it on my own around a decade later with all the new knowledge and guess what.. I had my jaw dropped lower than ever before. I cant wait for when we are all bored of superhero movies and true cinema/storytelling/concept based filmmaking comes back! We need more originals like this! I miss true cinema man.

Today I saw the movie again..I have already been 79 times and I still get excited and find things that seem wonderful to me ..the combinations of music scenes are really great..I'm 62 years old and I have been a movie and music fan for as long as I can remember but I have not encountered anything like this work in my life. The genius of Nolan and Zimmer is innate and incredible how is join issues as complex as the physical, technological, human, emotional, and they achieve this by making their creation a colossal work.
