It's strange, my school music teachers literally taught me nothing, compared to what I've taught myself using the internet. Especially these videos. It's a good job that my clarinet teacher taught me basic music and breathing. I don't remember hearing the term "circle of 5ths" 20 years ago though.

@@1Flyingfist I remember a teacher showing me a little cardboard wheel diagram of the circle of 5ths that you could spin the middle around showing the corresponding 5th notes and said this is all you'll ever need to know for writhing chord progressions, then he handed it to me and didn't give any further instruction as if it was all I would need. I played around with it a few times until I realised it was actually a killer frisby and after that I only used it to throw around the house. It really was amazing to throw I wish I still had it.

Spent 50+ years playing all kinds of things but in my youth, though years of piano lessons, never got ANY THEORY. I have felt like 1/2 a player for all my life and it zilched my confidence. You are a fantastic communicator. Teaching complex things in a complex way = Insecurity. The teacher doesn’t understand it well, and is parroting what others said. Or they need to ‘impress’ people to have their ego stroked. You teach complex things simply because you know it so well, and are confident in your skills. What a pleasure to learn from you, Gracie!

As a professional teacher (winner of teacher of the year, and semifinalist for state teacher of the year in North Carolina.) Not to sing my praises, but to sing hers. See below. I feel like I’m in a good position to judge teaching videos. This young woman is, without a doubt, one of the finest teachers I have ever encountered. Her explanations are simple and lucid, her examples continually reinforce the teaching point she’s trying to make. She has an excellent speaking voice and it’s easy to understand. I could go on singing her praises for sometime, but you get the idea. She really is something special.

🤯 my mind is completely blown by this girl! You have made things so much clearer to me in your short videos with your clarity and easy way of learning then my decades of piecemeal, trying to learn these same concepts! Thank you thank you! I have played classical guitar since my early 20s I am 68 and I never consider myself a real musician because I’ve never been able to speak the language or understand the language that you are explaining it’s quite simple, but the terminology always tripped me up And I just thought it would be impossible for me. Like your explanation of a circle of fifths brilliant just brilliant, thank you I am really glad that I’m not going to die, being ignorant of such necessary terms and concepts! This will be a familiar story I'm sure... Fifty years ago, poor music teachers made this lesson unintelligible gibberish to kids with dyslexia, like me, then blamed us for being dumb. They locked many of us out of learning music theory for life. It was like being refused the alphabet, but wanting desperately to read. I've tried repeatedly but it never took. You just made this all so simple and sensible. Thank you Gracie for your gift of teaching, and for opening up the charmed circle again.

So my comment is to tell you that Jimmy Roger’s Standing around the Water Tank was one of my first songs on the guitar. I’ve been playing and reading 57 years now. I have played on the same stage with Tommy Emmanuel and now I’m focused on Classical and Latin music on nylon strings. Your videos on chord and interval theory are bringing back how difficult my Mel Bay books were. I did one of seven plectrum books a year. Lots of chord by visualization. Your education here is awesome!

Also, to any one wanting to play any musical instrument, Please, Please,---- take the time to learn basic music concepts (theory), it will save you a lot of time and frustration. I did not learn any of this when I started playing guitar at 15, and have been working to learn what I should have learned when I started. I am now able to play songs which I never thought i could and have a better understanding of what I am doing when I play my guitar. My compliments to Gracie for her outstanding tutorials.......

I unfortunately had an initial guitar teacher when I was 13 years old who could not teach me how music was constructed and only taught dumb ass songs. It took me years before I could teach myself how to read music and how a chord was constructed. Finally I can play on the fly and understand what I'm doing. Intervals are just a pit stop on the way to teaching yourself. Thanks for the great instruction.

Years ago I bought a book called The Elementary Rudiments of Music, by Barbara Warham. Learning music theory was and is the single greatest thing that has improved my playing. I know many people scoff at this but the ability is in the head, not the hands. Somewhere along the line I lost this book just when I was getting into the section on intervals. This teaching is immensely helpful in my continuing quest toward musical improvement. Again the improvement comes with the understanding, why before how. Thank you for filling in this gap. I will be following this series with diligence.

Been playing guitar - on and off - 60 years. Trying to learn a little more about music for the last 6 or 7. Sort of new about intervals but now I really understand. Yet again Grazie has turned on the light with total clarity. Amazing music teacher. Thank you.

thank you for your helpful videos, i figured another way to remember in the beginning, so if you remember the letter F then count 5 from F(included the first letter) it will be C if you count 5 steps from C it will be G, and so on. to get the bottom letter you start with the 7th letter that is B but this time you count 4 and it will be E and then count 4 it will be A keep counting until you have the set up to write down the circle of 5. thanks again for all the work you do, it really makes everything so easy.

You take something that could be difficult and explain it in a way that is easily understood no matter your level of expertise. Best teacher I’ve ever seen for this stuff!

Thank you for awesome explanation of intervals. I am a music hobbyist for many years and causal learning about topics like this easily trip me up. This video sorted out my confusion. You are a great teacher and my hero. I hope you are well compensated for your teaching skill as you must have spent many hours learning these topics. Keep up the great work! I watched a music video of yours and you are an amazing performer as well. I am continually impressed by all your endeavors

ive never had intervals on the staff explained so well. I always wondered how people were able to sight read, or quickly determine chord qualities on the staff without stopping to try and figure them out by each interval. ive watched a bunch of videos about theory, and have seen countless videos with music written on staff. and never had a clue how people could do it like that. i always figured it was something most children learn when they are put in piano lessons or were learning an instrument like the classically trained. thisis a great video and flows well, and progressively that makes great sense while going at a steady pace. you're a great teacher Gracie, thank you.

Had a family picnic and was asked about music theory when I said it's fairly simple when taken one part at a time. My family all play music and they disagreed with me. So I'm sending them all your links. Good teacher. Good style. Review is excellent for me . Thanks GB
