As much as I love her music, 8 years isn't much. Some people have waited 20 to 30 years with no success. She's fortunate and can see her drive in this culture. And getting political of Men vs Women? Seriously? Women are strong in the Techno game currently and placed their stand firmly. Personally I see more passion with them but people need to stop getting political.

she won a tv show which launched her in a way, but then she was using a dude name (Raving George) to hide she was a girl for people who never had seen her before/didn't know her. Of course when it aired that cover was blown and she decided to use her real name instead.

Dan Snow I agree, as much as I love female dj’s that are actually good, I fucking hate how they try to politicize every fucking thing.

Yeah the whole "woman have it more difficult" is completely outdated. I am in a techno collective with a handful of woman and they get booked way easier because of their gender, they admit it themselves. Not complaining but neither should they in this day and age.

Nobody stopped or rejected females for deejaying or producing years ago. It has everything to do with the expansion of dance music and genres like techno worldwide. Lets not forget that in the 90´s most artist we re coming from dj culture and started as a resident in a club or venue. The pool of techno artist back then was much much smaller, so were the numbers of events. You had mistress barbara , kruse, estroe, allready back then. Right now women are really put attention to the position of the women. Thats cool for me, but deejaying has nothing to with gender, but with growing up with music, creativity, talent, skills, etc
@iamdem38977 жыл бұрын
I agree ! The comments both interviewer and de Witte did, sounded a little bit disrespectful to me regarding Monika Kruse, Marushka, Gayle San, Miss Kittin for example. These women were in the business way before 7 years ago and they are still the genuine queens
@matthewthechalk7 жыл бұрын
"Nobody stopped or rejected females for deejaying or producing years ago" Bulshit. Go to any video of a female DJ and just look at some of the disgusting comments contained within them. Even on Charlottes "Dour Festival" set, one of the most liked comments on the video was "wank me like this babe". People just look straight past the music itself and scream OMG A GIRL SHES HOT AND A DJ
@stretch18076 жыл бұрын
I don't think chillegast was referring to KZbin comments as "stopping or rejecting females," Matthew. Not to say that comment sections aren't problematic generally. I think most people who can distinguish the more proper DJs from EDM jockeys will say that the music the former spin and the environment they create is much more inclusive and also that gender-gap arguments applied as they are applied in the mainstreams of societies do not accurately represent their situation. If the DJ is female, great! If the DJ is male, great! If the DJ is transgender, great! Whatever the DJ is, great!
@stretch18076 жыл бұрын
Frankly, the interviewer is the one trying to be provocative asking Charlotte if she had trouble finding her place in what the interviewer calls a male-dominated industry. From 2:50-2:55 Charlotte is basically saying that once she got over her preconceived notions about having to be "one of the guys," she realized it was all about talent and started owning her art.

@moralrevulsionLive6 жыл бұрын
Arturo Toledo amelie needs to step up her game in dj department not producer. Is complicated to be a good producer and a good dj at the same time so you can adjust your personal sound in your sets. One thing Charlotte,deborah and kraviz especially kraviz (speaking for female producer/djs) is that they managed and build sets around their sound. Amelie is awesome but I believe she still needs a lots of work to make her sets more functional its not just push play and banging at the same tempo the sets need to have synergy and be personalized one thing Amelie needs to accomplish. But she will get there because she is awesome

“I hope techno isn’t becoming EDM because then the genre is dead”...... plays at tomorrowland.. what a joke🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@halo0914 жыл бұрын
How does that affect the sound. Pop techno would just be house music and it literally wouldn't be techno then. Tomorrowland crowd didn't handle it anyway
@patrickahonen57726 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking about what she says about melancholic (techno beeing dark) and that it gets deeper from it, why is it that darker music feels deeper? the more i think about it deep shouldn't have to be dominated by darkness, right?
@karstenvancampenhout36866 жыл бұрын
She does not have a clue what deep techno is or dj-ing for that matter. No talent as a dj and not even producing the tracks she releases her self. Fake! I really don't get what people love about her except maybe her looks.

The "old boys network" that actually built the scene and sound. Most women didn't care about dj'ing or producing when there was no glamour or attention (social media) involved imo.
@JSym927 жыл бұрын
In her defence, she started off her career under the name Raving George, because she didn't want her gender to influence how people liked her music. Who cares anyways, forget about the gender and focus on the music.
@mengelmoesNL7 жыл бұрын
I wasn't specifically referring to her though, just my impression of the last 15 years in the scene.
@JSym927 жыл бұрын
Not so different from for example, the IT industry right? In the past, it was all about the tech-nerds. Now that we have simplified technology so much in the last few decades, there is much more room for expressing creativity and less need for understanding technology. Women have always been more creative, and men have always been more technical (On average ofc). That's why it's usually the women who decorate the house, while the men take care of the electronics etc. So it makes perfect sense why we see more women enter the scene nowadays. There are just as many men as there are women (trying to get) in the scene mainly for the fame, money and attention. Women just happen to have that secret weapon that wins over a lot of men. ;)
@mengelmoesNL7 жыл бұрын
Women being more creative than men is quite a statement and I'm not here for a whole gender debate. I was just thinking back about dj'ing 14 years ago and there were just very few women on forums or dj contests and stuff, it's not like dj'ing was rocket science back then or that there were any male imposed barriers on things like that.
@JSym927 жыл бұрын
I suppose I should rephrase that to "expressive", rather than creative.. But my point is, that your conclusion about glamour and attention being the reason women are suddenly interrested in the scene, is just too narrow-minded, and doesn't apply to women any more than it does to men. I just needed to point that out.
