Even after 40 years in power, Libya`s Colonel Gaddafi has some bold ambitions. His ideas for African unity involve the creation of a United States of Africa modelled on the EU - an idea he set out at the recent African Union summit. As thousands of Africans continue to head north in search of a better life in Europe, he also has strong views on immigration. The Libyan leader, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, is attending the G8 summit in Rome. Before leaving for Italy, he spoke to Euronews from Tripoli.

There was no chance that the US and Europe would have allowed Africa to dictate and challenge gold price as rival the US dollar. I've been to both Tunisia and Lybia a decade ago and discovered that Gaddafi was the most progressive leader in all Africa( free housing, healthcare, housing, interest free loans, free land grants). He wasn't the bogey man the West had painted out over the years...

Libya was probably the only country in Africa that had near to no poverty whatsoever. This is why other African leaders endorsed and allowed gaddafi to take the lead role in trying to tackle poverty in the whole of Africa and took him very seriously. This conflicted with western Rothschild interests and we all know the end of the story..

Khadaffi or no Khadaffi , I've got a sense that over time Africa will find it's way out. Or rather, the peoples of that continent will unite or co-operate in a way wich will enable it to truly become autonomous and independent, controlling their own land and (vast) resources on and in it. Managing their own way in the world, away and unattached from the West as well form the East, China in particular. The African Giant is still slumbering, suffering tremendous nightmares , being confused and suffering from a nasty infection from the outside world, tormenting and leeching of it like there was no tomorrow. But, that giant will eventually wake up, getting it all together and will heal and become resilient to the outside threats. Wether the West or the East like it or not, Africa will rise. And will rise big time.

@memberHD I personally don't believe it is the sole responsibility of the United States to act as the world's police force. We've been doing that for the last 60 years and it's the most backward and hypocritical form of foreign policy I've ever seen. If the international community wants to take action collectively to handle Libya, then so be it. It is a global problem, therefore a globally-backed solution is in order.
