Clive James was about the best interviewer on TV. He was not full of himself, or his own opinion, and never let the interviewee struggle to get a word in edge-ways. He asked intelligent and respectful questions, always listened, and one learnt a lot about the person he interviewed. Few, and I repeat few, more so on today's media, are like him. Jonathon Ross and Richard Madeley could have learnt from this guy.

He was the first person In Ireland to go live and laught at our church doctoring. That took gutts when most of Ireland we're church goers and deeply Catholic.I met Allan, along O'Connell St in Dublin in 1979. Seeing him, I was surprised how tall and slim he was and i said to him l loved his show and keep rattling the church it made everyone I knew laught. He thanked me and said, with a quirky grin, "isn't a grand day?" We shook hands and parted.

10:30 after Spitting Image, watching the The Clive James Show with all the European adverts and Endurance ( Japanese game show) It was the only thing that made thinking I had to go to school the next day worthwhile. Dave Allen was also awesome, as a kid, I thought he was the height of sophisticated comedy. As an adult, he’s just bloody funny

Dave Allen’s appearances on Saturday Night Clive were always funny. On another episode Clive showed a US made video about toilet training small children. Dave’s comments afterwards made me laugh out loud.

This was one of the last interviews that Dave Allen did. The other one was in the same year(1998) and on Clive Anderson's talk show on BBC. He was sort of semi retired by then, but still very funny.

In ireland, our pubs' names are not like those in the uk, the kings head or the coach and horses. Ours are generally the names of a current ir former owner mostly. I wonder was the pub Floods , Floods in a suburb of Dublin called Terenure . There was an old joke about an irish wedding. Oh the wedding is so beautiful. We were on Floods. Floods of tears? No Floods of terenure (yes, it was a real pub)

This kind of performance by Dave Allen hasn't aged well. Too hyper, too desperate for effect. As if his life depended on it. Makes me feel sad. Maybe he was on something.
