Hi Joep. Ja, Afrikaans is mos baie soos Nederlands! All the best :)
@MrLaizard7 жыл бұрын
For me it sounds much more Flemish than ABN (Algemeen Beschaafd Nederlands) or Holland). Greetings from Argentina!

Hey Mr Laizard, Tx for the greetings. Yes, over the years Afrikaans became it's own unique language (and one of the official languages of South Africa). Nice to hear from Argentina! Hope the coffee is good there!!!!

I came to listen because I've heard that if you want to hear what English sounds like to people who don't speak it, Afrikaans is about as close as it gets.
@Ghiani165 жыл бұрын
This is not even close to English.. I speak dutch and i understand 80% of this converstation

Frisian is closest to english. If you want to know how people who don't speak english, listen songs in Simlish xD
@twinimi44862 жыл бұрын
@@nathanael5898 Frisian is closest related to English on a linguistic family tree, it sounds and speaks nothing like it. only small similarities here and there which honestly are also all-over other languages too.
@Brian_Patrick10 ай бұрын
@@Ghiani16Linguistically and orally, it's about as close to English as one gets without being mutually intelligible. The fact that it's intelligible to you because you speak Dutch is mostly beside the point.

De definitie van verschillende spraaken is dat ze elkaar helemaal niet kunnen verstaan. Ik heb Nederlands niet meer dan drie jaren op school geleerd en versta toch het meeste van dit interview. Dat bedoelt eigenlijk, dat Afrikaans niet echt een andere taal is als Nederland maar een dialect. Waarom is dat officiel niet zo?
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne, Yes, you can probably call Afrikaans 'n 'dialect" of Nederlands. Dis ook een van die offisieele tale van Suid Afrika. Dankie vir jou nota! Groete

Hi all, Here's a question to the Dutch natives: Can you understand Afrikaans well? According to theory, there is a high degree of mutual intelligibility between the two languages. So, in your ears: To what degree is it possible to understand the Afrikaans language. To my German ears, Afrikaans sounds very Dutch. However, the pronunciation of Afrikaans seems to be a bit harder than the very soft pronuncation of Dutch... Best regards
@HANSMKAMP6 жыл бұрын
For me a bit difficult. But it does help, if you train listening to an Afrikaans conversation, like in this video, and know something about the Afrikaans grammar. It will drastically improve your Afrikaans listening skills.

Hi John. I can understand about 80 to 85% of this converstation. Its like native Dutch in a different dialect or something. If they would speak slower i could understand it even more. Its a real cool language though. Sounds funny haha. Basically they are talking about coffee haha about the machines and how they make it. Some talk about the service they deliver haha

It's like people from a different region, speaking in very strong dialect, i can understand it, but i have to pay a lot of attention and put a lot of effort into it, if they would speak slower it would help, some words are pronounced as 100% standard netherlands dutch (not flemish), some words are pronounced like in a strong flemish dialect..
