Love the question about balancing teaching with writing. I’ve written maybe 2 short stories since I began teaching years ago. I find it to be incredibly draining profession, unfortunately lol

I think Hollywood’s disrespect for writers comes from insecurity. The executives resent the fact that they need writers. They’re so good at taking meetings, raising money, and getting stuff done, and the fact that they even need a screenwriter to make any of that happen must infuriate them, so they spin it. They convince the writers that they are dispensable, that they’re the ones who need the executives because who else will pay them? We saw this all unfold during the writer’s strike, when actual executives said they’re goal was to ruin the writers so they would lose their homes and come crawling back. Only petty, insecure, children are capable of that kind of cruelty.

Great interview. Happy to hear Straub's work is getting a well deserved re-release, but why does Neil Gaiman have to write introductions for everything these days? I can think of so many authors who would be a better fit for an introduction to Straub's work. But maybe I'm missing something.
