Good video for a basic interview. However as a Biomed system director, I do not do a typical interview. I have perfected my interviews, that we can have a conversation and I get what I need from you without the pressure of the tell me about a time when questions. One thing I do want to share, remember no matter what there is nothing to be nervous about. If you are there for an interview they have already shown some sort of interest. (Yes even that first interview, I cast aside 20-30 resumes before I ever make a call, more on this later) This is now your time. You need to approach your interview with the mentality of do I want to be a part of this team. Do I want to spend 40-50 hours a week with these people. If you are not turning down positions offered you are not being selective enough. I turned down 3 positions, before I accepted my current role. They were just not the right fit. Also something that was really underplayed was that peer interview, this will be the group you interact with the most. If you do not get this peer interview run away from that position. When you get that peer interview it need to be just that. I would ask that you can have that conversation without leaders present. You need to ask what your peers think about management. They will give you a much better answer if the boss is not sitting there with them. And a good leader will have no problem allowing this because they trust the team to do what’s right. The next thing pay attention to what is not being said. You ask “how much overtime is there?” If they tell you OT is expected, or there is unlimited OT opportunities. What is this telling you? One they have over committed, or they are not staffed properly. Two they are not running a department that is operating at a high level of efficiency. Or three they take those that want to work with doing the jobs of those that don’t want to work. This all points back to bad leadership. Let’s say the flip side it true, they tell you we do not offer overtime at all. Well this could be that they are over budget, they are over staffed (doubtful since they are hiring) under utilized within the organization, and many other factors that are really not conveying a healthy department. The ideal answer to the OT question is more along the lines of, we strive to minimize OT, however there are times it is required, or offered on a voluntary basis for projects, ect. Also be worried about the comments of we are all like family. Your not family your co-workers. You may get along well, but at the end of the day your not family. I’ll end this long drawn out comment on a 2 year old video to say. Before you ever worry about the interview, your resume needs to be 100% on point. In the probably thousands of Resumes, will hit delete on most. This is your first impression and your best representation of yourself. If you can’t have the formatting correct, or can’t put the job title in and the name of the company you are applying to, delete. If you don’t put a phone number delete. If you exceed 2 pages delete. If your resume does not inspire me to find out more, delete. If you have 2 lines that should have been on page 1 on page 2, delete. You have 18 blank lines adding a blank page to your resume, delete. And finally, if you saved the file as “resume” or “biomed resume” or any variation of, you may get an interview if that’s your only issue. But they tech that uses thier name and the position as the file name, they get a call and are a top priority. Because I can hit save, and easily find your resume in the 10-15 I may be calling. You just saved me that little bit of time from haveing to create my own file name to save your resume, to distinguish it from the 14 others listed as “resume” So please spend time and mail Down that resume. You will never get to the interview if you do not impress them with the resume. Go look up “yahoo CEO Resume” and when you find hers. If you do that you will catch the attention of that manager/he lady, or whoever’s it is and you will get calls.

I'm sure some places ask interpersonal questions, but in NYC it's actually illegal. If it ain't about the job specifically they won't ask you. Also equipment scenarios aren't even asked, that's because every hospital has equipment that although do the same things, operate differently (new hospital have GE monitors, your old one has Philips, etc). Best thing you can do is be personable and show that you can work in a team, and also don't be negative about anyone, even if your old manager was an ass.

Hey man just stumbled upon your channel yesterday and happy that i did because im about to start my journey to becoming a BMET. Firstly, id like to thank you for making videos about the ins and outs of this industry, it makes it feel not as intimidating knowing that other people have similar experiences im about to encounter. Also, in the next few weeks im about to start my 6 month certificate program. I would like to start working entry level somewhere but i know my opportunity for advancements might not be an option with my current experience/education. Guess what im trying to ask is, is there any advice as to what i should do after so that i can advance and have more opportunity? Thanks again for your time

As always Good vid bud and thanks for the info and your consistency their is very little information about being a biomed and their roles on KZbin and you are a beacon of knowledge for us the students and future biomeds. I"m wondering can you make a video on the role of a BMET that works for a hospital vs a BMET that works independently or for a private company. Thanks in advance and have a great day .

Just found your channel. Great stuff! I'm located in Australia. It sounds like USA have a lot of biomeds per hospital? How big are your teams normally? I look after a 170 bed private hospital with 1500 asset without any other biomeds. Not sure if that is normal for you as well, and you're just referencing large hospitals? I started managing my own hospital after only one year of industry experience, and have never had formal OEM training on specific equipment. It was a steep learning curve!

@@BetterBiomedChannel Interesting. Can you quickly break down your biomed levels? I work on pretty much anything thrown at me. Anaesthetic machines, vents, piped medical gas systems, supply pendants, central monitoring/networks, etc. Should probably mention I'm 5yrs in now. Not that fresh into the field.

Hello, my name is John and soon to be retired military. There is something that draws me toward the BMET occupation and I hope to start school in May 2021. You have become my mentor in all this because your videos are super informative. My question is, what type of equipment does a general level 1 BMET encounter on a daily bases?
@BetterBiomedChannel

BMET 1 can work on a HUGE variety of equipment - depending on their willingness and capability to be trained. Infusion Pumps, patient warmers, patient monitors etc are most likely.
