This is an interview with someone that grew up in Haiti as the son of a voodoo(Vodou) priest and priestess. He talks about many of the things that go on in voodoo which are hard to believe for others outside of the country, but are in reality a part of everyday life there.
This interview backs up some other videos I have done including:
Should We Use Drums to Worship God?
Child Sacrifice in the Bible
Does Exposing the devil Give Him Glory?

Regarding Haiti and other similar places; poverty does not cause crime and immorality, crime and immorality produce poverty. The exact opposite of what we are indoctrinated with, as usual.

Yes the Bible says a lot of the time poverty comes from laziness, pride, greediness, drunkenness, etc. At the same time, there are instance where people grow up that way and it is difficult to break out of generational poverty even from ways of thinking passed down. Just because someone is poor doesn't mean they are automatically that way because of sin. Jesus had harsh words for the rich, not the poor. We are told not to oppress the poor, to have mercy on them, and to give to the them. The Bible also says there are poor people who are upright in moral character: “Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.” (Proverbs 19:1)

@@treadingserpents Absolutely. I have made a video on this very matter lately. Jesus himself was not wealthy. We in our carnal nature often love to pick on "bums" but forget that we ourselves could become that. Many folks have lost their fortunes and been left with nothing. One example: the Germans during World War II. In fact, a lot, if not most, wealthy people are among the most foul and ungodly men on this planet. I have witnessed it myself.

@@treadingserpents Those are good biblical points, this is another tough subject I find it hard to reconcile Christian compassion with harsh reality. Maybe a distinction between being poor and living in poverty. I would consider myself poor even though I have a job with a decent income, I rent a small townhouse, I am able to provide 3 meals a day for my family, and pay my bills with not much left over. I feel blessed to have these things and would never complain or curse God falsely for my station in life. Poverty, I would say, is what we see in the inner cities where bullet proof glass is required at gas stations and items locked behind glass due to rampant theft. Places where stores are burnt to the ground and don't rebuild because dealing with the continual violence is simply not economically viable. You simply can not have a prosperous community without trust. When that trust is continually broken it will lead to poverty. As far as picking on "bums", I would of course not do such a thing. However I believe the statistics show the vast, vast majority of the homeless are habitual drug users and more than likely have chosen their lifestyle. Should we give to these people indiscriminately when most likely our charity will simply enable this? As far as the "poor" we sometimes see standing at stop lights with a sign stating their plight; I have seen many sting operations where these people will pan handle all day and then go back to their car parked a few blocks away and drive to their single family home, having made a ridiculous amount of tax free cash. Should I give to these people, especially when they are an able bodied young man with no obvious afflictions? I honestly would like some guidance on this, maybe you could do a teaching on it. Thanks.

I understand where you're coming from. I have seen the panhandlers making a lot of money. We all need to make a decision on a case by case basis, but I don't think we can assume we know the background of every single homeless person and assume we know exactly what they will do with the money. You can always ask what they need and buy that for them. I also never give money without also giving a tract and the Gospel. So even if they do spend it on drugs, they can wake up with a tract in their pocket and read it. The money simply opens the door for the Gospel. They need to be saved just like anyone else even if they are liars and thieves. In addition to that, we are told to give no matter what, expecting nothing in return. God always provides for us and we won't suddenly run out of all our money because a homeless person took our money and "wasted it". I will end with some verses to think on: “31. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. 32. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. 33. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. 34. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.” (Luke 6:31-35)

@@treadingserpents Yes, giving money is fine, and certainly better than spending it on some temporary pleasures, but what matters the most is that the truth is shared, or everything else is in vain.

If you do a future interview, I'm curious how Kevin broke away from voodoo as both his parents were heavily involved. Also, what are his beliefs now? There's a Martin Sheen movie called The Believers and it's all about these types of practices. Very interesting video Nate, God bless!

I know a brother from Haiti, and I asked him about voodoo. He told me alot of similar stuff. He also was adamant that this stuff does not work on the saints. You should have asked about the zombies.
