@Naveen AutomationLabs, I like the tip Naveen. Very valid one. Now a days this point became more mutual. Even companies are asking only about Java, Selenium ..... all tools related questions. Once resource join, realize the missing QA part of resource. Yah! I agree every one should start giving due respect to over all QA/QE process.

I completely agree with Naveen Sir. Manual testing is the base and 100% automation is not possible. Now a days every client is expecting to involve in complete SDLC starting from Requirements phase to Maintenance and tester should have a good analytical and problem solving skills without depending much on developer.

Recently I had given one Automation Testing interview and I got to know about the interview feedback from one my friends from that company, they had the same opinion about me that I'm good at Automation but lagging behind in Manual Testing. And that too I have mostly worked on Manual Testing still I couldn't showcase my manual testing knowledge. So while trying to showcase our automation skills we forget our basic core manual testing skills.

As an automation engineer, I can't imagine doing my job without doing some manual testing first and attending product meetings, etc, to get a deep dive into what I'm automating! I'm actually shocked that so many would be adverse to doing this...

I have personally seen in some good companies if you believe me or not , Most of the automation testers are contract based and getting short term projects and once they feel their job is done there contracts are removed , But a Qa with excellent Manual testing and product knowledge plus some Automation knowledge will always be in long term projects and always be a critical resource to the Product

I believe like you said we are at the end of the day testers.And also, behavior of the application and product knowledge is very very important.The more you have a product information,the more you can relate to the customer end point and further write scenarios which as a WA we might miss.

Sure, but if I give more time to manual testing I will do less for automation. In the end you either end up in more activities like test cases design and supporting whole bugs life cycle or with creating, refactoring and monitoring your automation tests. If you spend most of the time doing manual - you'll end up being better manual tester with worse automation skills or the other way around. Since test automation pays better and is valued higher people just don't want to spend time perfecting less valuable skill.
