Great interview, not many of the old boys still kicking around. Wealth of knowledge, im sure there's a few tails he could tell about the miners, but not in front of a lady.

A lovely interview, Michelle, kindly responses by Ken. Tied in beautifully with the illustrations, that they were able to access their mine at Wattle Gully from Chewton could be comprehended, joined there at their Level 8. Excellent presentations, and enjoying these very much, thanks!

Awesome interview! Ken is even a few years older than I am. Bet he knew and talked with some of the old-timers from the 1800s. There's ore specimens here on my desk that my granddad held onto from his 19th century claims. Sometimes it seems sort of crazy it can already be a quarter way into the 21st century already.

I've just arrived back in Irishtown and looking forward to more heritage fossicking, when I was here earlier this year I had an extensive look around wattle gully mine and was amazed at the workings of the machine room and ore processing plant, I just received the latest pmav newsletter and it has an article about wattle gully mine in it but I'm yet to read it 🤔 thanks Michelle for this very interesting interview 👍

I took a tour through the Wattle Gully mine in about 1976, when I was 15. It was absolutely fascinating but the most exciting part was that I specked a little piece of gold in quartz which I put in my sock to avoid detection. I still have it!

Hammer and tap... I am from the NZ mining district. Maybe it would depend on the hardness of the rock. Sometimes there would be three strikers, working in turn. And one joker turning the drill.
