Thanks for the great talk y’all! As mentioned, I’m also knocking at the mid-career door. Trying to make the move to level 3 in a good way. Since my time interning and being full-time at my current company, I feel my career would transition nicely into a devops role. That’s the goal, we’ll see what happens 😎

This video hits me heavily. I feel as though I'm such an odd state at my job where I'm leading a new implementation of Rancher. Started fresh off the platter 2 years ago and I feel like I've come such an insanely long way but I'm at the point now where I don't know what direction I want or should head. It's just a shame because my work place is incredible for growth but I struggle to want to stay here due to the amount of money I know I'm losing out on. But also with only 2 years under my belt I feel like it's really difficult to get my leg in the door in other places handling similar things that are as hands off as my current place is. Talk about mr. bones wild ride.

I think it's normal to be considering these things. It's rough out there right now so having a safe place to wait out the next year isn't a bad plan, especially if you're learning and growing there. Once hiring picks up again it sounds like it might be time for you to jump ship and get yourself a silly-sized raise. You can always go to meetups, network, contribute to open source, and interview on the side (as a lower-priority thing in your life) to see if you get any offers worth jumping for.

Relatable... I have fond memories of teaching my grandma how to e-mail me using her new Linux (something debian based) laptop.
