In the final part of our interview Alex and I talk about living with shame. Shame led us to fear of rejection, fear of being laughed at, fear that people would see our mother's behaviour, and be called the weirdo. We shut down and carried the burden on our own. It is an isolating experience.
Guarding schizophrenia as a family secret is a heavy load to bear. Seek out support, be it through a trusted friend, a family member or a support group. Don't walk this path alone.
