btw, friends, i (finally) began reading the forest of enchantments, a few nights ago: i’m halfway in, and... it feels like i’ve plunged head first into the very vivid forest and as though i’m right there alongside sita, ram and lakshman 🌱✨

Oh my god! I might have been living under a rock for not being able to find this channel sooner! And now all I'm doing is scanning through all the Botcasts and other interesting things as much as I can. Love them very much! PS - Could you please bring Kalki Koechlin for a Botcast next time? It'd be amazing.

finally, took some time out to sit down and write you friends a long comment. this is the most delightful episode yet!!! never watched any interviews of chitra before this - she’s sososo sweet, and lovely to listen to. i’d enjoy being a student in her class! so much to learn, and the encouragement - immense. how she refused to say anything snotty about current poets! her #bot intro! her tinkling laugh! - haha, i’m besotted! [so for me, the chitra divakaruni love began in college. this was about 14 years ago (yeah, i know), and it was jhumpa lahiri’s books and hers that made my college library seem way more exciting than it was, at the time. i can’t recall what particularly drew me in but chose their books to borrow, and i haven’t looked back since! chitra’s: started with #sisterofmyheart and #thevineofdesire (which i think would work great if developed into movies/a series) and #arrangedmarriage which is a beautiful collection of short stories ... i’ve also read #oneamazingthing, #thepalaceofillusions (so wonderful), #oleandergirl and now cannot wait to read #theforestofenchantments. i just ordered a copy for my birthday. i am thrilled that you girls had the opportunity to interview her and thanks for bringing us this special ep. a very makes-the-heart-smile kind of episode!!!]

This was such a lovely episode. Watching Chitra speak is so gratifying, and she has an infectious smile throughout. As always Anuya's witty puns and Sharin's facepalm moments are fun to watch. BoT is getting better by the episode. Love you guys! I'm looking forward to reading Arranged Marriage, Chitra's short story collection book that I found out on Wikipedia.

Hi Sharin/Anuya...this is a good discussion and the author seems brilliant n I'm inclined now to pick her books. I never comment on anything but since I like BoT (which actually prompted me take up reading again...Thanks for that), I wanted to give u guys a suggestion/observation - why do u guys always sound condescending towards anything that is related to Indian culture...first it was 'chi chi' comment on Premchand many episodes back, which I thought may be just one off comment, but this seems like common thread in most episodes. Could be totally unintentional but it just puts me off slightly in otherwise immensely enjoyable content

I don't think anyone sees it as a female writer or male writer. People have favorite genre of writing. I've never seen people searching for male written novels or female written novels.

I myself never do that. I hate seeking out literature on gender basis.
@jithin5283
@jithin5283 5 жыл бұрын
@ Sure we all love to read books written from different perspectives. The kind of books I read have enough writers from both genders so that I don't have to hunt for writers of a particular gender. My reading choices are very organic and without even me myself realising, I have read enough writers who happen to be female, writing from the perspective of their gender. I understand the scenario you mentioned is different. When a genre is crowded by writers of a particular gender, we would always love to read books from the other gender and see how they add different dimensions to the genre. But still I am curious why only your female friends crave for women-authored books in male-dominated genres. Why is this craving gender-specific?

Chitra Banerji Divakaruni is one of the finest writers of modern Indian literature in English. Such a wonderful choice, Books on Toast! Only turn off was the way Anuya not maintaining eye contact at all with the author even though Chitra was answering the questions facing her. Sharin I must say is way mature as an interviewer. Anuya, you could learn some lessons :)

How can a real character draupadi be portrayed in a fiction book.. How can draupadi love Karna who instigated thought of vastraharan in duryodhana's mind.. Over compassion for unfortunate life of karna should not demoralize draupadi who is from one of the top 10 chaste women of Indian scripture's....one should not write such books till not having complete knowledge of our Holy Books.. Reading such books is like drinking milk which has already been poisoned by a snake
