Great interview with Cory . Talking about venting a colony . I run all eight frame colony’s an I run screen bottom boards an a screen top inter cover year round but in the winter I will put my IPM board in the bottom board. Here in CENTRAL NC it gets cold but not very long an I have never lost a colony from winter. Also I think the screen bottom boards really help with the mites . Thanks for all you do with your videos. THANKS

If you run different configurations, you can figure out what's doing the best job for your bees. Thanks for sharing, I like enclosed screen bottom boards for that passive mite-reduction :)

It is good to know someone as young as Cory Stevens could be so well-versed in bees he is truly glorifying sometimes it makes me wonder about all of his success because there is a lot of theories out there I am 76 and I have heard most of these the proof will be in the pudding so just say good luck mr. Stevens

Thank you Fred, is quite interesting that he is breeding for resistance and hygienic behaviour. My understanding is that most US bees have very limited genetic diversity, I wonder how this impacts the breeding. Good to see he confirms the 5 over 5 setup that you like. Informative re: The baby mite needed the mother mite to cut into the flesh before they could eat.

Thank you Mr. Dunn. Mr. Stevens is quite an expert. You have been in my bees before. Mr. Stevens talked about his father and grandfather and I learned about your father while you inspected my bees. I was hoping to hear more about the logistics of his queen cells. Activity of the contents is very important for what he does. I really want him to do well. Thanks again.

After hearing Bob Binnie discuss fall feeding of 1:1.4 syrup to help bee gut health over winter, I tried it last fall. It seemed to work, as 9 of 10 hives came into spring looking strong. OA treatments probably played a role too. PS I was born in Sikeston, lived in Rolla, Jeff City, & Overland, following my dad's work.

Hey Fred & Corey The thin syrup is mentioned by Bob Bennie. It was a study done by India actually. They say that a 1.3 to 1. Water to sugar by weight is the best overall. I have been doing that since I saw it as we are in a huge dirth in East Texas. It works really well. Was feeding 1:1 but this is cheaper and better. Hope this helps

Question. Do you think these 5 frame narrow deep nucs overwinter better because they can control the temps better
@FrederickDunn
@FrederickDunn Жыл бұрын
I think it's because the space better matches the size of the cluster. Larger populations don't have issues with larger boxes, but small swarms or small splits do much better in these 5 over 5 configurations.

@@FrederickDunn Thank you! Im trying to find the feeders Cory was speaking of for his nucs. Can you help me out? Last year I put double bubble in the lid. Is that what you do or do you insulate the outside of the lid? I did the 5 frames of honey and a screen bottom board they made it fine. I'm planning on at least 3 this year that's why I was asking. Where is Cory from? Thank you for all you do!

Bob Bennie referenced a study done in India with different ratio's of sugar/water. They found that 1.75/1 (W/S) stimulated both brood and frame drawing. It was years ago, it may have been 1.50/1, the study listed all ratios, gettin old ;)

Is it still stimulating to feed thin syrup (2 parts water, 1 part sugar) now? Or is it better 1:1? Talking about new colony, to get it stronger.
@FrederickDunn
@FrederickDunn Жыл бұрын
I can only address what I do, and that's 1:1, I haven't done any further testing, and could not find any published papers regarding the lighter mixes. Someone else mentioned that Bob Binnie established a 1.3 to 1 (water to sugar) as the lightest mix that resulted in production stimulation. I did not verify that claim.

Thank you so much for the bee knowledge. Be aware of the narrative of how Native Americans are portrayed as one with the world. They practiced cannibalism, slavery, racism(towards Nez Perce’) & ran herds of bison(100’s to 1000’s) off cliffs to eat 2/3. Sorry to be the one who points it out but honesty is imperative. People did what they needed to survive.
@FrederickDunn
@FrederickDunn Жыл бұрын
Did we discuss Native Americans in this video? I'm not sure what you're looking for. It's true that many Native American tribes sought the complete destruction of their neighboring tribes and more... It's also true that many Native Americans bonded heavily with nature and demonstrated a profound respect for nature. We can find extreme examples on both sides of that. Some Christians arrived and gave native people the opportunity to accept Christ, and if not, could then be, and often were executed. There are extremes and extremests if we look for them. I am a Fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and his prairie design :)

Minutes 42:00 I find the conference situation curious. Kaymons ex-partner posted something and pulled the video. Many of Kamins buddies are casual abandoning the other side even though it seems Kaymon may have been in the wrong.
@FrederickDunn
@FrederickDunn Жыл бұрын
I hope we can all leave the details and differences to Kamon and Dustin to sort out. None of us have the complete story regarding what drove them apart. Kamon has invited me to his conferences in the past, and that has put me in direct contact with many new friends. So, if he invites me to come and speak somewhere I can't decline. I hope conference goers will simply choose where they want to go and not turn it into a "boycot, or cancel culture" movement. The Vendors will just go where they will have the best sales, and receive the most exposure. Attendees will go where they can get the best information or find the best fellowship, or get the best deals on sales. You're right, HL has taken down all information and videos. There actually may not be a Hive Life Conference at all. Like Dr. Phil says "no matter how thin you make a pancake, it still has two sides". We don't know what we don't know... I hope Dustin succeeds with his wax-dipped hive body fabrication and sales, and that he finds his way as a businessman.
