As a white Policeman I had Mr Nkomos house in Pelindaba under my Security watch. We were always respectful towards each other and was in fact friends with some of his Family and top men. We witnessed the rage between Zanu and Zapu during the Entumbane time and realised then that had Zipra (Or ZAPU) and Smiths Government joined forces we would have had a different Zimbabwe today. A pity Mr Nkoma chose to support Mugabe as it was only a question if time before old tribal hatreds would emerge and the shona would use their power to take down the Ndebele and any opposition. Mugabes election was won only on a numbers game, thats all, 80% Shona and 20% Ndebele. Doesnt take a genius to have seen that from the begining. A united Government under Nkomo, Muzorewa and Smith would and could have build a Fantastic country for us all. RIP Mr Nkomo, just a pity you couldnt see the Trees for the forest at the time. Zanla forces were absolutly no match at all against the well trained and loyal Rhodesian army (80% Blacks) and the Zipra forces.

Am not comfortable blaming Shona people per se. Firstly, Zapu was a national party with Shonas holding key positions, as well as plenty supporters. I can only talk of Zanu, and it being predominantly Shona based does not justify painting Shonas with one brush. I would not want to confuse issues, wherein on one hand gukurahundi was Zanu program to achieve one party state. On the other hand grand plan was a Zanu and tribal instrument meant to destroy people in Midlands and Matebeleland, what for I don't know. As such if there is going to be a push back by those that are affected, it should not be viewed as a push against Shonas, but against oppression. Mayuyu Mahlabezulu. Tell us what it is that he is rewriting? Once one grows up fed on ZANU propaganda it is difficult to listen let alone accept anything else. Only ZANU PF narratives were carried on television, radio and the main newspapers, schools, etc especially in the '80s. The findings of the Government's own appointed commissions of enquiry into the Entumbane fighting and Gukurahundi were conveniently suppressed and never released. It was free reign for ZANU poisoning the minds of Zimbabweans and feeding the country lies. Hence because of that distorted false history, we have today a regime led by a man whose criminality, deception and key role in orchestrating untold atrocities since independence should have seen him removed from government by the time we reached the 2000s.
