I remember training in balintawak style, Late GM Anciong Bacon is usually mentioned by the current Grand Master and masters as this man with his age and size can rip your spine. I was trained under GM Nick Elizar but not directly from him I was once guide sparing what we called "agak" but I'm taught by the Masters under him Master Jacob and Victor. I trained when I was in high school but stopped due to demands in school and work and I miss training, oh good times.

Thank you. We were trying to do one interview a month with a Guro or Grandmaster, but when COVID happened we had to stop. Hopefully we can get more once the quarantine is over in the future.

Sage wisdom - "it's about the basics." Having worked with both law enforcment (LE) and military (MIL) special operations for over 23 years, I can tell you this is very true - Special Forces is nothing more than doing the Basics, extremely well. Same is true for realistic combat. Know a few core principles and concepts about speed, power, agility under stress, extremely well - and apply them to what is most likely to happen in a street fight or in combat, NOT what is shown in the movies or in padded up fights in padded rings with padded bouncy mats or surfaces. Testing of such under stress and full speed necessitates protective equipment, that is why you'll see in ASP tactical baton testing, the lobster suit; or, in military and law enforcement applications, the SPEAR High Gear equipment - testing and approving full speed, with actual weapons, not foam ones, what may or may not work. But - to make sport of such things or movies. NO. We have become both deluded and deceived by movies and MMA, UFC, Thai kickboxing, Action Flex tournaments, etc., as to what will actually benefit the average civilian or, for that matter, the donut eating cop or slacker soldier - Knowing and testing a very few simple things, consistenly over time, and especially for LE and MIL, SAFELY, is what needs to be employed - keep it SIMPLISTENT (simple and consistent) - for, you are of no use to your buddy on your left or right if you are out of the game due to negligent training. YES - things can be safely tested as stated before, and need to be - but NOT at the expense of days lost due to negligent accidents - like, for example, almost dying because you got MRSA rolling around on infected mats, or sprained a knee or ankle or ripped them apart doing mat work. The good thing about SPEAR High Gear is it allows you to train with what you will be actually wearing, including shoes, on concrete and with walls that are real, and you'll have proper footing - not barefoot, for who the BLANK goes into street combat, LE or MIL environments - in ranger panties or MMA shorts or such??? NO - they're weaing gear, and a lot of it, that can be grabbed onto and - well, I could write a book on the crap that the military has been indoctrinated into because they wanted to attract youth addicted to MMA and UFC, so - as in the Modern Army Combatives Program, they paid the devil to focus primarily on grappling. BALONEY! Most fights DO NOT always go to grappling. You might believe that because someone selling BJJ, etc., might have said that loudly enough so many times, which does not make it true. Samson killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of an ass, and the jawbone of an ass looks almost exactly like a Kukri. Do you think the feared Kukri fighters of Nepal are going to give up THAT advantage to roll around on the ground??? Do some fights go to the ground - yes, after someone has been hit or shot, mostly - if we're talking about LE and MIL - and all you have to do is look to the thousands of videos online about punks going up and knocking folks out with sneak attack punches or in brawls. The reason LE and MIL need to focus on grappling is because of force continuums, Rules of Engagment, usage of force laws - and, because using the least amount of force to render a situation peaceful is, truly, preferred - for all life is precious. HOWEVER, we cannot nor should we forget, that in a life threatening situation where split seconds matter, you better well know how to use lethal force to protect your life or others - quickly, against multiple opponents - because that's how cowards usually operate. So. TRUTH! Sage wisdom from GM Nene. Amen. Do we need to know some grappling - yes, about 10%; but 90% needs to be focused on ending the criminal or terrorist quickly!!! Because, usually, the coward is going to bring along more cowards, ready to step on your head when you are down there going for the Kimura. Temper and balance that judiciously with the need for maintaining your Operational Space, i.e. that which maintains the full usage and access to continuums of force - from spray, taser, Bolawrap (look it up), tactical baton, cuffs, and/or firearms and, worst case scenario, knives. And, know how and when to break contact and SPRINT, run, and do the Lone Survivor thing, because there is a time and a place for everything: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYnEmKSsba2fgJI

Absolutely right! Less is more. You don't need to be a SFO to know that. Every single competition fighter does the same. A few basics or principles/techniques...but THESE are performed pretty good. But (too?) many people forget what it's about...
