I have and love her Queenspotting book and have at least 20 beekeeping books. Thank you for interviewing her.

Fred, you have a great voice for narrating. You can also go into sales lol, even Hilary bought the Vac and the queen isolation cage.

I was very surprised on both counts, one.. that she has watched some of my videos, and also that she took one of my recommendations :) That made my day :)

Hi Hilary and Fred, gr8 video… So at 44:44 talking about bee attacks… if the tall contrast person was to drop height and change contrast would the bees be pacified?? Just asking… Hilary is just down the road… one day!😅 🍻

Stop, drop and …. Roll? 😂
@FrederickDunnАй бұрын
It's true... if you find that you're the tallest person in the bee yard and begin to receive some negative feedback from the bees, just get lower than those around you. It works! I just pretend to be interested in some ground cover or a dandelion etc... until the threat has passed ;)

I uave her queen spotting book and like it. I wonder if her book is much different than the book we use for Bee school: Honey Bee Biology and Beekeeping by Dewey Caron.
@FrederickDunnАй бұрын
Dewey Caron definitely has some valuable benchmark books. Hilary has produced a much more digestible and visually appealing book in Heart of the HIVE. She also touches on many behaviors that are not covered by Dewey. I paid that $70+ for his Honey Bee Biology book. It's a great resource, but very different. I recommend having them all on your shelf :)

Very fun and informative video to watch. Thank you both for sharing. I occasionally have to speak in public, and I think we all are superconscious of our speech.

Fred… at 1:03:30… flipping bees… can you capture on slow-mo!
@NancyTasker-gm4yqАй бұрын
I have seen bees do the flip in my yard. On outercovers and on reflectix. I didn't know it was a thing and assumed they were having a hard landing.

Sure can! :) :) :)

What is there to like about varroa?
@FrederickDunnАй бұрын
That would be a great question for Hilary :)
@girlnextdoorhoney7939Ай бұрын
In their native range (Asia) and with their native host (Apis Cerana) they aren’t as destructive. In an ecosystem, parasites play a crucial role in regulating host populations, influencing food webs, and contributing to biodiversity by altering competitive dynamics between species, essentially acting as a natural control mechanism that prevents any single species from becoming overly dominant.

Hi, my friend and I started bee keeping at the same time. I continue but Kevin had to give up. Honey bees are defensive toward Kevin. It was clear. They would chase him out of the hive area and beyond. I noticed one day while visiting another Apiary. We noticed Kevin had disappeared, he was 400 feet down in the field activity fighting off the bees. It was not funny. I felt so bad for him. Two things, he was super afraid of bees. He had plenty of a right to be. Second thing, he was, and still is an alcoholic. He started every day with a few drinks. He smelt of alcohol.

People even buy the expensive stuff Fred recommends. I am considering the battery smoker he talked about but it is money!

Yes, always consider how useful an item will be to you. The Apisolis Vape Unit is very handy when I travel to someone elses apiary for a quick look. Turn it on, take a look, turn it off, load-and-go. Needs and Wants :)

Didn't Natalie's channel used to be beekeeping like a girl?
@FrederickDunnАй бұрын
Yes, it was. I don't think she realized at the time that it was already a blog Name that was being used. That's why she changed to Beekeeping With Natalee, which is what she goes by today. She has developed a wonderful brand herself :)

@@FrederickDunn ah yes the details. I just figured she changed the name to sound more grown up or something. That makes sense.
