Interview with Joe Strummer - Part 2 - April 4, 2002 - NYC

Excerpts from an interview done with Joe Strummer at the Gramercy Park Hotel. He discusses the story behind his famous Fender Telecaster, a little Politics, the Shakespeare Theory of Rock-N-Roll, and living in modern times.
The sound is not the greatest, this was recorded on a small Sony DCR-PC10, with only the on-camera mic - sorry about the background noise.

me too! I was very fortunate to share this time with him. We were scheduled for just 15 minutes and he stayed talking with us for almost an hour and a half!

John Graham Mellor, a great man of wise words that inspires me every day to just hear his voice in the songs .... Superb interview. I worked in the UK music industry in the Punk years! Saw the Clash play at The Rainbow, Finsbury Park,London on 09.05.1977. Many years later had an evening with just me and Joe at the Mud Club,. Never will forget him and that night. RIP JOE STRUMMER.

I remember that era of London of squats in the 70s - literally rows of derelict houses in London all over that people like Joe Strummer squared for free, some even had electricity...that's the world that spawned Punk Rock!

He doesn't look sickly. He died from a congenital heart defect which actually could have killed him anytime. RIP Joe.
