I absolutely loved this show. Seldom does one get to see a show in which all of the actors are individually funny as well as funny in group settings. I live in America and I find that British comedy is so much better than ours because it reminds me of a time when comedy was funny, not raunchy. Because of this show, I started to look for other British comedies and I found that there were quite a few, like The Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, As Time Goes By, Are You Being Served and several others, but Keeping Up Appearances is my absolute favorite, so much so that I purchased the entire series on DVD. What a great show.

+Wes Benter i sort of agree but it's all subjective really. even without the genre restrictions TV has always been a hit or miss... and these days we have reality tv which wouldn't even be so bad if there wouldn't be SO MUCH OF IT like reality shows about everything! REALITY SHOWS ABOUT PEOPLE WATCHING TELEVISION I AM NOT SHITTING YOU THEY ACTUALLY DID THAT IN MY COUNTRY WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HUMANITY?! *ahem* sorry about that.

Agree totally....little talent today when it comes to genuine comedy, most is crude and poorly written. Traditional British comedy has always been tasteful and never vulgar, funny with out being crude and written with intelligence, same for older American comedy shows also with greats like Carol Burnett, etc. Today's stuff is rubbish so we don't watch any of it, give me the old stuff any day!

Judy speaks FACTS!!!! The classics are the best. Modern comedies if you could call them that simply can't compare. Vulgarity, sweating and nudity doesn't equal talent.
@Oysterblade843 жыл бұрын
It's not just that a lack of talent that brings them down but alot of the comedians and celebrities today shoot themselves in the arm for coming out and making a political statement about climate change, black lives matters, diversity or LGBT etc. Robert Deniro, Barbara Streisand, Jack Black just to name a few. Why can't they just shut up and keep their political views to themselves, politics and religion are private matters. I lose all respect for them once they start shooting their mouths off in public about political matters or pushing their own agenda. I have to admit Patricia Routledge and Judy Cornwell are not part of this elite cancel culture that want to bring back communism and take away our freedom, these old actors and actresess know how to respect their fanbase.

Bit of trivia: I forget the name of the film, offhand, but a young Judy Cornwell plays girlfriend to Fabian (the 60s singing heartthrob/wannabe actor) in a movie where Fabian is an up and coming race car driver. Yes, at the start of her career, Ms Cornwell played "ingenue" parts. BTW, not really sure Hyacinth was the brainy sister, she was just the one who had ideas about how she thought HER world should function. Some of her ideas were somewhat daft. And Daisy and Rose? I have sisters like them, well, Hyacinth too, I suppose. But Daisy is our favorite. And Rose? We put up with her quirks. Hyacinth? We often wonder if she was adopted.
@GuinnevereB11 жыл бұрын
I agree with her too. Personally, I blame the lack of decent scripts on nepotism. Some crude idiot with no talent - but whose dad or uncle has the power to get him hired - gets a job writing, and all of the "yes-men" in the system tell him and his influential relatives how "brilliant" he is. Then other people imitate his "style" hoping to sell their stuff to the same market, and the standard drops like a rock. It's a shame.

she sounds almost quite posh compared to her character in the sitcom. intersting views. dylan moran, stewart lee and norm macdonald all swear but no one would say they are crude, or lack wit or intelligence. lee and macdonald are so razor sharp, they are considered comedians' comedians. moran is the most lyrical, intellectual and poetic stand up comedian's i've ever seen. I am not against swearing as long as its not a substitute for good writing; judy is certainly right about that. i think it's a big world and there is enough space to accommodate types of comic tastes. there cannot be value judgements in the arts.

Judy is spot on about modern comedies in the main, they seem crass, base, nasty and frankly boring, I'd sooner eat burnt toast than watch Ali G, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr and that ilk. I'm only 47 but prefer the classic, surreal, inventive and thoughtful comedies from Buster Keaton, Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke Show, and classic animation, although We Bare Bears is fantastic. KUA was a marvellous show, the actors got so much out of the script, bringing it to life in the most perfect way possible, it was cosy, quick, a social satire and some great one liners, and the scene with Daddy in the spacesuit never fails to make me laugh. Poor Daisy eh with Onslow, never got the attention she deserved, he was too busy with the horses and Open University books lol.

@pattyann41639 жыл бұрын
Comedians who use swear words do it to boost the audience's attention. It is just a manipulation, like picking out someone in the front row and going back to him/her every time the jokes stop working. The swearing often sounds forced, I think. "Gratuitous" is the word that comes to mind.
