what an intelligent, insightful, wise, decent, articulate, self possessed person…and a bit of John’s fire when the interviewer offered that a couple of well known filmmakers felt that Magical Mystery Tour was one of the best films ever made… “who are they to say so?, and you’ve fallen for it”….brilliant
@allymayful11 ай бұрын
That didn’t make sense to me! Why did it make her so cross?
@skipskiperton499211 ай бұрын
@@allymayful well, while I can’t speak for Julia, I would say it is because as she says in interviews, she just knew John as john, her brother. And it was the rest of the world that went crazy over them, and adored everything they did. I include myself in this, I/we would be happy to even have a film of them sitting on a bench staring at the wall… And while magical mystery tour features these four guys and their music that we love so much, it is hardly “one of the best films ever made”…. so as John‘s sister, she probably shares Johns feelings of “we’re just a band, who made it very, very big, thats all” take on the Beatles. She’s obviously a bit cultured as well, so she bristles a bit when people place unrealistic praise, or inappropriate praise on a song, film or any project that they may have done, just because we have this great love for them and their work. we could say; “I really love magical mystery tour because it has the Beatles and their music in it”….. but we wouldn’t necessarily have to say it’s “one of the best films ever made” … not saying that, wouldn’t have to take away from our appreciation of the film, we can still love it just as much because it’s them… It doesn’t detract from their value to not hail that movie as one of the greatest piece of art ever.
@allymayful11 ай бұрын
@@skipskiperton4992 l don’t think the producers said it was the best film. They valued it as a new concept in film making, that they enjoyed studying at University, or in their youth. First of all, MMT was very Avant-Garde type & not meant to be conventional in the first place. It’s a made for TV musical film, not a motion picture. Listed as comedy/surreal humor. Paul called MMT a success failure when interviewed by David Frost in 1967, also stating, he quite liked it, admitting it was “bitty” but was supposed to be like that but people were looking for a plot but there wasn’t one. What McCartney has since said about MMT if he was indeed ever asked, I’ve not read anything about that. McCartney conceived of the film & has been credited with leading the project. Now it has a cult following because it was The Beatles featured in the film along w/of course providing a Beatle music soundtrack

I had 45s of Twist and Shout, Please Please Me, I should have known better, there’s a place.. I was about 12 or 13 years old or so. My parents had a box of 8-tracks and I would sit on the floor with these gigantic headphones on and listen to Magical Mystery Tour and take note of how the train world go from one side to the other and just stare at the bazar cover. My friends mom down the street gave me the White album record a few years later and I would set the speakers up on my desk and put my head in between the speakers and sing “Across the Universe.” And “Julia” totally immersed..
