Watch AMBY's exclusive interview with Lush! While at TURF, AMBY was delighted to speak with Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi of legendary shoegaze band Lush! Playing their first shows in decades in certain cities, I joined these two inspirations in Toronto on their tour bus ahead of their performance to discuss getting back together, original band names, fashion blunders, and future plans. It's fine to get older. I have seen the reformed band perform, and they are still as talented as before. People seem bent out of shape that Miki and Emma aged a bit, because I guess these commenters have been in a coma since 1996 and just woke up or thought the band members were vampires.

With age, I found they were very down to earth during the interview. very real and personable and that is what I find beautiful.

While all the other indie boys were proclaiming their love for Miki I was an Emma boy all the way.I was so in awe of lush's beautiful music and after finding out 95% of it was down to Ems it was a done deal.I done fell me in love.28 years and counting.

1990-92 will always be indelibly stamped upon my psyche. So many wonderful gigs in an around London. Lush were better live even than on record. One can never go back, of course, though you still sound great and the music is timeless. We remember you, Chris.

Love how down to earth they have always been. They were both big fans of the music scene, and decided to have a go at it themselves, and they did quite well! Enjoyed their albums when I was a teenager.

I was so lucky to have seem them live in 1994 and 1996. I can understand their decision to quit after Chris' death. I still listen to Lush nowadays

Can't believe I missed this whole reunion period. After 1996's LOVELIFE album I simply waited for a new album and the years passed and I never checked to see if they were still around. I have all their CD's-original 1990's releases and saw them in concert in NYC in 1992. I just listened to the EP released last year and all I can say is WOW! They have not lost it. The new songs can easily been recorded in the 1990's. I gottta get my hands on the EP. I can't believe what they look like today. Can't believe how Emma looks. I hope they record a new album.

I'm sad you missed Lush's reunion. It was pretty-much "blink and you missed it". They did shows in April - two - two in America, a couple of festivals and by September, they had fallen out again and packed up. Terrible. Emma looked p*ssed off at the final show in Manchester, but Miki gave me a hug after I sneaked into the aftershow party.

I cant believe I missed their tour out here.... I always look online for them to tour and I cant believe I they came out here and I didn't see anything about them. I hope the tour was successful enough that they will tour again.... I'm so bummed I missed it.

Yea, unfortunately it sounds like they're done. Never say never. But I heard from people who personally know Miki and Emma and it doesn't like their reunion will continue. Phil even left the band towards the very end of their run of shows in Europe.

I was at the Camden Electric Ballroom gig for the Lovelife tour in early 96, and it was fantastic. Bis were the support.

I’d loooooooove to get to see them play live in whatever (tiny) venue they love to play. Like a small intimate show with just like 20 of us die hard fans.. could you imagine? And if they let us take them out to get dinner after.. oh boy. Dreams!

I love them both and wish them everlasting happiness. One of the all time great bands and musical partnerships. Legendary. I’ve been listening to Gala lately and it’s such a brilliant album. Their sound and energy was like no other. The Sweetness and Light video is one of the best ever. Such a great band. 🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇

I saw them at TERF. They played in the pouring rain. Sensational gig. I met them and they were very nice. I can see how exhausted they are here. The rain can't have helped. I'm in awe of how great this band was. I'm sad it's over but enjoying Miki's new project Piroshka. Looking forward to seeing what Emma has in store in the future. I really liked her Sing-Sing project.

Thanks for being so well-researched.Been a Lush/Banshees fan for years and years and didn't know this.It's so refreshing to see someone your age who has obviously done their homework. If only music journos in the 80s/90s had been so thorough. Seriously. Well Done. Am as cynical/jaded/tired as anyone else in my age bracket and this lifted my expectations to an unrealistically high level. So everyone else will probably suck now.

That's called "ageing", growing up. All of us change with age, because we are alive and have hundred of thousands of metabolic processes and other causes which make us lose or put on weight, have our skin more or less tight, etc. Sadly...such is life

This was towards the end of September, 2016. This was just a couple weeks before Phil King (bassist) left the band and they called it quits again. I saw their Boston gig about a week or so before this interview took place. It was great, but nobody in the band apart from Miki seemed to be enjoying themselves and Emma refused to be mic'ed for vocals.

If you watch videos when they were younger. They look so young and so different to now. They look like different people. it's highlighted to how time can pass and you can look older and look different so quickly over 20 years. It's best to use a face machine and anti wrinkle cream . You can be 26 and suddenly be 50 so quickly. Dont take life for granted. Live in the moment and dont take life too seriously.

It's a bit jarring to hear them speak in that Brit Cockney when compared to their angelic harmonies. It's easy to forget those are actual people behind that wall of sound. The two of them made some sublime noise together. Too bad they haven't found the impetus to do something further.
