I find it super interesting that people used to teach that "feel" was "something you were born with" because I believe good communication skills can be taught; "feel," at the end of the day, is learning how to understand what your horse is communicating and learning how to communicate it back. The old school instructors who felt that it could not were just unable to articulate to others what they were doing. Hence it says more about the old instructors' inability to analyze, break down, and translate their horse communication in ways for other humans. We are fortunate that this is changing; thank you for helping horses and their people!

Yes, I think you are absolutely right. By saying that feel could not be taught, they were absolving themselves of the responsiblity to do an adequate job teaching it. It's essentially a cop-out for being lazy. I am glad to see that we are not the only ones that see it this way and that thinking around this is changing. It is better for the students, of course, and therefore better for the horses, too.
