His voice is so soothing when he speaks in Dutch as he did here. He was just amazing and such an intense beautiful person, Great actor! I only discovered him properly last year watching the Hitcher, but better late than never. I will miss Mr Hauer. 🌹

@@Overlorddz Yea, I liked him best in Blade runner, he stole the seen from every interaction with Harrison Ford. He had to make the jump himself at the end as the stuntman got injured, he told the director if you pull the container 1 foot closer I'm sure I can make the jump, they were running out of time and working 100 weeks on that film. "I'v-seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire of the shore of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those... moments will be lost... in time, like... tears... in rain. Time... to die".

It was nice to see him interviewed by someone intelligent. He was obviously very smart. Some of his interviewers asked him such painfully stupid questions. The statement that Stallone became submissive was very interesting. You wonder what a man like this would have done if he hadn't become an acter or had been born at a different time. He has a huge spirit, and I hope its enjoying itself wherever it is.

Its stunning what you find on KZbin. I have never heard Rutger Hauer speaking in his own language. This is an excellent interview and he seems so at home here and relaxed. He was one of my personal favourite actors in films like Nighthawks, The Hitcher and Blade Runner. However, my own personal favourite Hauer performance was as the tramp in The Legend Of The Holy Drinker. I love that film dearly. You are sadly missed Rutger, thank you for uploading this Mr Nuiten.

The interviewer is Theo van Gogh a great grandson of Vincent van Goghs brother Theo, he was a well known Filmdirector and Interviewer/television maker in the Netherlands. Tragically he was murdered by a muslim terrorist because of a film he made.

This is quite probably the best interview of his, he speaks so openly here. You see his other interviews, mostly with the Americans, and they all seem so painfully superficial, as if their "country itself had plastic surgery" very well put by Hauer. However this also kinda saddens me, because most of the things he criticizes of American cinema, he was actually a major part of?? He played plenty shallow and stupid American films, but I think it was somewhat out of his control. He is so critical of it all, but perhaps could not escape it himself in the end. It was probably the money. I can legit feel his frustration in so many parts of this interview, but that makes me appreciate him ever more. He was an EXCELLENT actor, even if not used properly later on his career, he still brought something special each time, no matter how shitty a movie he was in. Dare I say he deserved much better, but I think he died in peace and was happy with the life he lead, rip

What an actor. Loved his work for quite sometime. Sad that we won’t be seeing him in anything more now. People say he was difficult, but he had reason to be in most situations. Mr Stitch was a terrible movie. Wil Wheaton still holds a grudge because he thinks it would’ve catapulted his career. If Avary had taken hold of Hauer’s ideas, it would’ve been a better film. It was low budget as hell, but he was the best thing in that film. Hobo with a shotgun is one of my favorites. Even in his 70’s he was still able to captivate the audience. Mr. Hauer, you are sorely missed.

Difficult as an actor perhaps but the tales I've heard are that Rutger in real life was a kind, gentle and poetic man. Will Wheaton is still an immature jerk. Lol. Never seen Mr Stitch however as I believe that Rutger wasn't in a lot of it. Rutger is my fave actor and forever will be even though he's gone.

His Dutch pronunciation seems much softer than the one that is usually taught as 'mainstream' pronunciation to foreigners. Is is some regional accent?
@Brinta3
@Brinta3 Жыл бұрын
I’m Dutch. Rutger Hauer does not have a regional accent; his accent is very standard, from the Holland part of the Netherlands. He grew up in Amsterdam and his parents were actors, and Rutger went to acting school. His parents probably had a very neutral accent, and if Rutger hadn’t already copied that then acting school would have surely taught him to speak “proper” Dutch. What you might have noticed is that in this interview he speaks very casually, as if talking to a friend. I suspect that when ‘mainstream pronunciation’ is taught, everything is enunciated a bit too well and certain sounds such as the G are much exaggerated.

@@MrJonahWhaler Additional explanation: The famous and brilliant football player Johan Cruijff was born only three years after Rutger Hauer and also grew up in Amsterdam. Cruijff spoke with a very strong Amsterdam accent his entire life. The difference is that Cruijff came from a working class family and neighbourhood. After primary school, Cruijff went to the ULO (a secondary school level, but Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs literally translates to Extended Primary Education). Lower school level = stronger working class accent. In contrast, Rutger Hauer came from a more posh family (or at the least much less working class, it depends on your definition of posh) and neighbourhood. He was an intelligent guy and in the end got his Bachelor of Arts at the Academy for Theater and Dance. I’m guessing he never ever, even in his youth, picked up an Amsterdam accent but always spoke with the Standard Dutch accent because of his family and the nice schools he went to. *By the way, I believe Johan Cruijff was actually pretty smart. But who knows what happened… back then, there wasn’t much attention for learning disorders or students’ specific needs. Maybe he was just naturally poor at spelling or maths, or had difficulty with concentration, or perhaps he was a very naughty boy with zero interest in school. In his days such things usually meant you were considered stupid. Nowadays we recognise learning disorders and try to work around it. ULO is really low, and Cruijff definitely wasn’t dumb.

@@Brinta3 kom op now redefinition of estimated 3/4 of the curiculums needed across the whole school systems i mean i get why the academics wanted to hold on to their religion of lies for misplaced pride money career status and let´s not forget the immense peer pressure of playing along or yr out but at some point it has to break alone all for the children this is very wrong now and nobody´s talkin bout this we all been lied too about the basic fundamentals and that too what they made the all the other lies made fit and connect but it cannot go on like this it was more unawareness first maybe now it´s becoming more highly criminal by the day with the knowing and full knowing it´s false and corrupt n.b and if one looked just one or two layers deeper in it´s full on structured with nummerology and meanings straight out of the satanic corner not to make it extra sausy but those are the facts
