I love everything about this show. Especially the fact that is a queer story but they don't just focus on that fact. It is a masterclass in queer storytelling and how truly captivating it can be to all audiences when done right. Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson and Miss Bailey are acting their ASSES OFF! This episode really hit home for me (grew up in a domestic violence situation) I identified with Claudia so much, it is very hard for the abused to admit that they are being abused so Louis couldn't help but make allowances and excuses for Lestat's behavior. I know that in the movie that they try to kill Lestat but it felt so good to see Claudia get under his skin with that chess game.

Anne Rice says he didnt have anything to do with Paul's death and I'm inclined to go with that, although I realize the show wouldnt have to abide by that idea and it would give Louis greater incentive to kill Lestat if Lestat ultimately confessed to doing it, so I wouldnt be surprised by that at all. Also, Lestat has lied about things he knows will make Louis upset but he has not lied about things that upset himself, like how he was made into a vampire, so that's interesting.

I really love this episode because it was classic Lestat and Louis pulling everybody into their BS because they refuse to fix their own shit. So there’s a reason why Lestat made Claudia comeback which isn’t explicitly stated but was clear to me. When Lestat and Claudia had that conversation about his 1st love Nicholas that was significant because of how he died. Lestat turned Nicky into a Vampire but he was tormented by other vampires and he took his own life. Lestat was afraid of causing Louis to do the same if Claudia left. When Louis played that recording of Lestat’s song for Daniel it was a re-recording of just Lestat’s voice obviously meant for Louis to hear without him hiding behind petty mind games. I think Lestat is going to pop up during this interview at some point. Louis also explaining the cloud gift that he doesn’t posses when he has a floating library in his house is weird. At this point I’m sure Rashid is Armand primarily because he’s the only other long term relationship Louis has besides Lestat. The season finale is gonna be crazy, I’m curious how their going to transition to season 2 with Louis and Claudia in Paris. I suspect we will have three narrators telling their side of what went down then.

I was mad that Lestat stopped Claudia from being free but it made sense why he did it. it was emotionally immature reasoning because he could actually look at the main issues causing Louis’s distress but that requires a lot more effort than he planned.🙃

I agree. I think Claudia is a means for Lestat to control Louis, and yes, Lestat is suffering from major abandonment issues which is why he tries to cling to Louis so hard, and yes Louis is enabling and excusing his abuser.

I think it's important to note HOW Claudia beat him as well. She made a super risky play and sacrificed a bunch of her pieces to open him up. In his arrogance he just saw it as him dominating not realizing that he left himself open.

Great review as always. This episode showed just how down bad Louis is for Lestat, like damn not him swimming the Mississippi to find Lestat. The fact that Lestat's foul plan to include his side check on the record actually worked 💀😭 (Louis stand up) What Lestat did to Claudia in the train was fucked up but like Louis said he was suicidal the moment Claudia left and Lestat's was able to realize he was not in a good enough state to handle something like that again. My girl Claudia tho deserves to take her revenge on Lestat 🙌🏽

I am loving these reviews! Lestat demonstrated the cloud gift when he first fed on Louis after Miss Lily was put to sleep(in ep 1 or2?). He has demonstrated the mind gift. Also... peep what he did back in the early episode with the lamplighter that he first killed as well as the second priest in the church. Lestat has been telling on himself and his gifts for a while. Lestat is paranoid, narcissistic and has abandonment issues(for good reason) so, I personally believe that Lestat likes to spy on Louis and Claudia. He says he's going out to hunt and probably floated above them listening to Claudia's plan, watching her go and then seeing Louis go back into that depressive state where he ignored Lestat until Claudia returned. They did an excellent job on showing how we can ignore the red flags for a bad boy with that BDE and now we are seeing the other side when they unravel and become insecure, unpredictable and pathetic. In other words, it is cute until it isn't.

Love this review! How is no one talking about the South Asian human (or I think is human) man that Louis feeds on hasn't aged since the 1970's. How is that possible? Is he 100% human? Does he drink Vampire blood to keep himself looking young? I am assuming he drinks enough to feel the benefits but not to turn.

In the Anne Rice universe there are all kinds of other immortals (like witches and mummies) and since he is Middle Eastern there is a strong possibility that he could be one of the beings from the Ramses the Mummy stories. In those stories people can become immortals by drinking a special liquid. I'm really hoping that Rashid is not a vampire but one of these altered humans, where vampire rules don't apply because I think it would be awesome to introduce those characters into the story.

I remember in episode 2 Lestat told Louis that restraint was one of the great powers a vampire could have. He obviously has restraint and patience......that is untill he doesn't. Plus lestat wants to control the relationship with Louis and Claudia so he's not going to reveal all his secrets or even teach them all the things they are capable of doing. The three of them know that this vampire family of theirs is dysfunctional but I feel that they are all just kind of stuck with each other. Claudia wants out but Lestat will not let her go because of how it will affect louis and Louis for now is depressed and hurt being in this love hate relationship with Lestat.

I think Louis was more hurt and embarrassed that Lestat did that him then the actually physical abuse, but it is weird that he wasn't more like Claudia with his anger it would be one thing he was able to bounce back after a couple days like they do on the vampire diaries, but it was almost a decade, and it was like Louis was still a cripple. Someone that claimed to love him to do that to him. I see people saying "well Louis was emotionally abusive to him. Which sometimes he was, but not to point where Lestat has a right to try to kill him.

@@finfog4590 a lot of reasons actually. 1.because other vampires are completely nuts and dangerous. Look what happened to Claudia. American vampires are crazy but Euporean ones are NO JOKE. They will end you for little to no reason. 2. Louis is a very young vampire and not only is he young, he has an unusual diet (not eating humans). He's already sorta weak, but his lifestyle as a vampire would make it harder for him to fit in with other vampires, further alienating himself. 3. Lestat is his maker and they do have a bond that can't be easily broken. They are simply drawn to one another

You're not wrong about Lestat being unable to hear them when the two of them are speaking to each other, but he did say he can hear other vampires thinking about Louis and Claudia. (He mentioned Bruce to her.) So there are other vampires nearby and one of those vampires that he can hear knew where she was or where she was going, (or he just folowed them) and I think that's how he knew what was happening. But did you see Louis reaction to Lestat's temper tantrum. He just slowly turns the radio up so he doesnt have to hear him, while he rages in the background. He is used to the temper tantrums or unbothered by it.

Louis was high off the Lestat biting him. Louis says it was a high he never felt before. That was the only time he witnessed it. The second is him literally blasting off into space with Lestat so it would definitely be a surprise to him.

I kept reading people who were upset because people kept reading domestic abuse into the situation and I kept saying to myself that was the actual point. The writers themselves are making the parallel to domestic abuse. Danile made the connection out loud! If you're someone who has never been through it that's okay, you wouldn't see it, but anyone who has been through it or been close to someone or even tried to save someone who has been through it can recognize the signs of an abuser and the dynamics of abuse! What we were witnessing was the love bombing phase, where the abuser works really hard to win back their victim. In Louis we keep seeing the abuse victim who really loves their abuser and wants to believe that their abuser has changed. Claudia has been cast in the role of the best friend who is trying desperately to save their friend from an abusive relationship. So I'm loving how they wrote this so thatthere can be no mistake about the themes are in this show. Lestat is an abuser, and Louis is enabling him.

In the books they killed her because she “killed” Lestat, and also because she was very young (5 years old) when she was turned. Vampires don’t agree with making ones so young, nor do they agree with killing other vampires.

This episode was good. It was hard to watch heal from his wounds, suffer from ptsd then depression. I was wondering if Lestat loves Louis and wanted to proof how he changed. Why did he keep seeing Antoinette and wanted to be caught? It was also sad when Louis described his love: I loved her with all my heart and him with a wounded one? He was so dissociative during the love scene and looked like he was just enduring it.

I think before Lestat was bitten & forced into the dark world that he was heterosexual, then became bisexual as a vampire. In the first episode, Lestat took time to get to know Louis & gave him the choice to have the dark gift. Louis is not a victim! I think Louis is emotionally abusive to Lestat because he knows that Lestat doesn’t want to be alone and I think hates that he is gay and Lestat is bisexual & unfaithful. Louis is to blame for making Claudia a vampire, Lestat never wanted to turn her. This series is so deliciously disturbing….I just can’t, but I must🫦😘
