The most important part was the end there. So many people are wanting truth about church history. Knowing truth is a gift of the spirit. We cannot separate seeking truth with repentance! Truth isn’t free. We need to bring ourselves to the altar and come in humility and meekness, willing to do anything to come into alignment with God. Once we repent and come into that alignment, truth will come. But it’s not about research and comparing sources or podcasts. It comes through the spirit once we have the spirit!

I don’t remember who told th story of years & years (since his early teens) of praying for understanding abt his father, who had abandoned them when he was very young. (I think he felt he needed understanding to fully forgive him, or heal, or something). It wasn’t until he had chldrn that the Lord was able to answer his prayer … an answer that showed him how much his father missed out on; an answer that took the resentment from him & filled his heart w/ sorrow (& forgiveness) for his father. He learned that he needed certain life experiences (B,C, & D), before he cld receive his (G, H, & I) answer. It was the perfect illustration of what you spoke of, Todd.

Maybe this adds some depth to the question about what a contrite heart means. Years ago, I looked up the Latin definition of contrite and it means to to wear down, crush, crumble. It might help to think about this in terms of geology (which sounds strange). Clay is made of the same materials that rock is made of, the difference is that clay is broken down (crushed, crumbled) to very fine particles. A rock is hard, stiff, cannot be shaped or changed much without a lot of force. Clay is easily changed, moldable and will follow the touch of the artist as the artist creates something amazing with each lump.

I really appreciate the defense of Pres. Brigham Young. Some people today seem to treat his years as President of the Church as some sort of gap in the prophetic line. The older I get, the more I come to understand Pres. Young, and his uniquely challenging era, the more I realize no one else at the time was up to the task of holding things together against the enormous odds placed against the Church. He was a powerful Prophet, and I'm dearly grateful for his ministry and work under the Lord.

The saints are alive because of President Brigham Young. I remember in 1955 as a small five year old child coming into the Salt Lake Valley for the first time and feeling the glorious spirit of the Lord and the greatness of the spirits of the pioneers and the prophets. It was like a great light shining over the entire area and going through my entire body and mind. Pure intelligence, and sacredness of this area permeated my young mind.

You should try to get Michelle Stone on your show to discuss polygamy because she has done very extensive research on the subject and I would love to see her discuss it with you. Her podcast is called 132 problems with polygamy. She is not anti-mormon and is a faithful member of the lds church.

Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development made a breakdown of developmental stages. I thought it interesting that at the ages of 8-9yrs old was when we develop the ability to determine right from wrong, consistent with revelation of the Church. People WANT psychology anymore because we think that our “own” knowledge is enough. Pure arrogance generally until we ALLOW the Holy Ghost to speak to us. I believe in “erring” on the side of a prophet. If I follow “as a child” and at that time he spoke “as a man”, then I’d rather be accused of being a blind follower (a Lazarus) than a self-promoter (Abraham). That didn’t turn out so well for him.

When Joseph ask the question about polygamy, if God answers you in a way that you understand and its a necessary principle for your day then you have to live it whether you like it or not. We have been advised not to ask about things that we are not ready to live. With knowledge comes responsibility! Galatians 5:16-26 talks about the fight between the body and spirit. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. If this helps, I describe a broken heart like this; many years ago I worked with horses and at times would have to break them in at first they wanted nothing to do with you, but through love and kindness you build a relationship of trust. The more time you spend with them the trust grew, you also had to be strick but when they became broken in they were very faithful to every command you gave them. If we are not fully obedient to our Father then we are not yet broken in, only partially therefore not totally reliable as we may play up when ask to do what we may fear or dislike. Only when fully broken are we obedient to all commands. Its all about building trust in the Lord, as Nephi once said; I know the Lord God giveth no commandment unto the children of men save first He shall prepare a way for them to accomplish that which he commanded them, or words to that effect.

There's also collective accountability which involves the one. (mosiah 29) The blood of this generation isn't shed by one person, it is shed by this generation...by the People. The kings do not bear the state or national sins in a Republic. It's on the heads and tails of the People. My neighbors do not believe they support abortion or our wicked prison system but they do. They pay for it. They back the blue. They ignore the pleas for help justifying the work of very wicked men. It's their fault gadianton robbers run their show because they refuse.
