I looked at the rules and regulations and I just don't understand the logic behind forcing the use of a guard. It says it's to prevent ricochets but if the knives can't slide on each other isn't it more prone to ricochets?! A damn shame honestly. How the hell can one throw no spin with a ridiculous 4 inch guard?!

In WKTL you have to throw 1 and 2 rotation, no-spin is a different thing entirely for this. This was designed in parallel with WATL throwing which has lanes divided by chain link because it is done in recreation facilities so safety is paramount. Plus if you watch how these guys throw you will see that the guard is virtually a non-issue, they move side to side for an angel rather than moving vertically. The guards can get in the way, but safety is more important to the organizers.

Use smaller chain links then. Sounds dumb to have gaurds on any throwing knife and why can't you throw any style? Knives aren't axes and it doesn't make sense to make your knife the size of an axe length wise and put a gaurd on it. Call it what it is, spin throwing championship.
