We last spoke with Fede Alvarez, director of Alien: Romulus, shortly before the film premiered. Now that it's been out a few weeks, we circled back with Fede to ask A LOT of questions about it. This is raw, unedited video of the full conversation-our slightly edited-down audio version will be up later this afternoon!

Awesome interview guys. it's a shame that such a detailed and deep interview gets much less views than 10-minute lazy interviews during a promo tour. But nerds will always find gold. I will definitely be watching mr. Avarez's next projects, what a chill passionate guy

Absolute respect for Fede. He’s just released a global no.1 smash film and isn’t afraid to go on and speak to the heart of the fan base. Despite knowing that PO-Pod does have criticisms. He shows the fans such respect doing this.

Thank you for this! I will forever be grateful to Mr. Alvarez for making this wonderful movie. Alien is special to many of us and it is obviously special to him. I think it takes a fan of the Alien franchise to make a great new Alien movie. The love and dedication of everyone who worked on Romulus shows on screen and it is very much appreciated.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Fede and his commitment to making Alien Romulus such an engaging and more modernized version for todays audience, which is exactly what I think we needed at this point in time. He brings old and new elements together in a seamless creative way.

Throughout this whole process, of hearing about and then waiting for AR to come out, I've developed a real affection for Fede, I like the way he speaks, the way he cares so deeply about the Alien universe, and how he fought to bring back the genuine feeling of an Alien movie... I sincerely hope he gets to make the next one, and I sincerely hope he wants to do it... 🙏

Great filmmaker. Had a strong vision and carried it through. What ever you think of the movie (I love it) you can’t deny he’s been brilliant for the franchise. Can’t wait to see if he and his co writer come up with the next iteration 🤞

😍 Fedeeeeee!! I loved this after film chat! Cheers to you Fede! I actually just saw Romulus again today! I had no idea that Archie had ad libbed in the scene he was begging Andy on his knees. That scene broke my heart every time!! And I had forgotten that Tyler didn’t know Kay was pregnant, so Raine saying that to Andy in that moment of very intense desperation and Tyler’s reaction made it worse. I WHEW I loved this film. Question though, the alien in the elevator shaft with Raine- I just noticed (or rememberd) it took a bullet to the head….and it looked like it had sparks in in its head like it was a part synth xeno? I kept saying to myself it was the lighting behind it but as it got closer to Raine to almost kill her I saw it again. What was that about? Did anyone else see it?

I was naysayer about this movie for so long, there a few things I am not keen on, but for the most part I enjoyed this movie so much. So grateful to just have an Alien movie i can enjoy again...

The movie had a lot of problems which mostly boils down to its reliance on call backs to all the other films including lines of dialogue and camera angles, the parts that were not directly copying were very good. Now that all the old material is used up I would be interested in what the next film will bring. This interview also shows that he is aware many of the older fans did not love aspects of his film and he almost says we had to do it for the new fans.

Depends on the fan as well, I love the Alien franchise and I didn´t mind it at all.
@chootsart

That doesn’t make sense though. Those call backs would all be lost on new fans, and likely gone straight over their heads, meaning the only reaction would be eye rolling and groans from long term fans.

@@chootsart I wouldn't say "new fans" but rather "normie fans" and consoomers. The typical surface level crowd pleaser tricks work on them and gets a reaction out of them, now they're telling all their consoomer friends - texting them while standing in line to get the latest super sized Xenomorph Funko.

I just want Disney to understand that this amazing and beautiful franchise has never been about pleasing the new generation and thats where they did us real fans dirty with all the callbacks and homages

Even though my opinion has not changed with romulus, I appreciate fede's honesty that this film ultimately is not for me but the new generation. I don't 100 percent agree with that mindset but get it.. It's the business. Great interview 💯

Did Fede explain how the group was able to access the Renaissance ship before any WY got there?

If Romulus is the Force Awakens for the franchise, then it is one hell of a start. I feel like it is almost an insult to make that comparison though. Fede did an excellent job. I think they are really missing an opportunity here to exploit the muthur AI aspect of the films. Like David, what if Muthur is disillusioned with the inferiority of its creator?

the callback quotes were mostly tolerable but I was really annoyed that the aliens did jack all. "Scorched" did less than grid alien from 20 years ago! The xeno design was fantastic but I expected fede to give me some great alien scenes and I was let down.

You can justify it to yourself all you want but as a fan, the "Bit**" line is a huge slap in the face to Ripley and I'm justifying it to myself as just dumb

it was ridiculous. They robbed Andy of having his own iconic line. I think someone said in the last episode of this podcast that they missed an opportunity to not use some sort of dad joke for that moment, to keep with the on-going bit.
@stateazure

@@Cargo_Bay They couldn't even write an iconic line for him. There's not a SINGLE iconic/memorable line in this movie that is original and belongs to Alien: Romulus. I can't quote a single line from the movie ..oh wait..I actually can - 'there's sumfin' in da f'kin wat-ah' /smh!

@@stateazure sure, but what memorable lines are from alien 3, 4, avp, avp2, Prometheus, covenant

@@Cargo_Bay None from those that I can remember either. Should those movies be a benchmark though? I'm sure there are still writers out there that could write excellent and memorable dialogue.

@@stateazure I’m finishing this particular episode, and I’m sure it got applause in theaters (even my theater), it’s still an awful use of line stealing. And Fede trying to justify it in this is hilarious.

Debrie dont stay the same place in the vacuum of space. Nostromo floating around isnt possibly in real life. Parts would be floating away from each other 4 ever. Finding the Alien 20 years after in space... is so stupid... space is HUGE... WY just leaving the spacestation all by it self when it has the most important specimen ever on board would never happend in real life. WY could easily send a crew from the jackson station to the spacestation... Instead a group of teenagers enters without a problem😂😂
