Intex deluxe skimmer fix and howto with a low capacity pump.

This video is about the Intex deluxe skimmer, out of the box it's useless, it doesn't stay steady on the pool tubes, gets loose, loads of adjustments before it sucks water in, and with lower capacity pumps its not sucking in water at all...
Well thats over now... with an easy and cheap fix. You can create more suction with some ducktape and lead fix, maybe the lead isn't even necessary, it was already on there before. Try without lead first. By closing of gaps on the underside of the white bucket the suction from above becomes much higher, even with a low capacity pump as mine. Use a sponge to secure the skimmer better on the pool frame, it won't move anymore!, the pipes which come with the skimmer are too rigid, turn the pipe a bit on the pool connection to flatten out the skimmer on the surface, also adjust the white bucket to a lower point so that the blue bucket floats more on its own instead of leaning on the white one, this way the skimmer also stays more horizontal. Enjoy your skimmer people!
Step 1: close the gaps on the underside of the white bucket with Ducktape.
Step 2: put some ducktape on the blue bucket about 4cm down the edge, this way the pump sucks less water between the blue and white bucket, this way there is more suction from above. I made some kind of straps out of ducktape to get more thickness out of the tape otherwise you need a lot of tape.
Step 3: adjust the pipe on the outlet so, that the white bucket is horizontal.
Step 4: adjust the white bucket down so there is more room for the blue bucket to float and turn around, this way the blue bucket or skimmer also stays more horizontal.
Step 5: If it's not working, i used about 8 parts of sticky lead devided into 2 parts of 4 pieces on each side, 5 grams each. You can get these at your local tyre shop.

Thanks. The tape thing worked for me! I was driving myself crazy trying figure out why if my pump is 1000 gph and this requires min of 800, it would barely pull debris. But easy fix.

I finally realized the purpose of the bottom flaps. If the water level drops below the skimmer it will be sucking in all air. This is a safety for that. I did this trick too, I want all the suction I can get at skimmer

OH WOW... I always wondered why there was hardly ANY SUCTION with this skimmer... Now, I know... In fact, I threw it in my trash today while cleaning my basement, because I thought this was useless. lol.. Now, I need to take it back, wash it off and try what Reiner Hut did here. :)

Apparently, this fix alone will not get your intex pool skimmer sucking water with lower capacity pump as I found out today. *On top of this fix, you also have to PLUG or stop the other OUTLETS if you have more than one. Only one outlet connected to the skimmer can be OPEN as was shown in this video.* I don't know why intex pool owners on KZbin fail to MENTION this ONE CRITICAL FACT when it comes to intex skimmer.

Apparently the power of Intex pumps varies, I have the same pump and never had any issues. As for the skimmer, I did other modifications. Video is on KZbin. ps. I don't like the idea of lead in a swimming pool.

I have the same problem. What moron throught it was a good idea to put those flaps on the bottom? They just make it worse. I'll try some duct tape tomorrow!

I didn't realize those flaps were on the bottom that let water in. I couldn't figure out why the bucket wouldn't empty when the top if it was above the water line. It took me 15min to finally figure out the flaps were there. Tape will definitely be put on the bottom to cover those up. Prob spent 2hrs trying to get the skimmer to work after it had been in the pool for a number of days. Initially worked well then stopped. Maybe because my filter was new?

I just put duct tape on the bottom without anything else and that alone improved the suction 10x. I can actually see the swirl at the top.

Because the standard pump delivered with the pool has very poor suction power. If you put some weight on the bucket, it will lay deeper in the water and get more and easier water pulled in.

We get more shit in our food then a bit of lead in a pool, its covered in tape so. Maybe different weights are better, its not mandatory.

Just upgrade your pump and filter system with a sand filter, and you do not have to do any of this nonsense. The cartridge pump/filter you are using is complete junk.

lol bought a sand filter last week going back to today. Leaks under motor it was draining the pool and the pool is filled with sand, I am not a plumber or a mechanic when I buy something I want it to work. Put the little pump that came with the pool back and wow sparkling clean water again, now to get the skimmer to work,
