What a coincidence. My son bought me one for Father’s Day last year. I found it difficult to use because of virtually NO back support. Then my daughter bought me a fishing seat. It looks exactly like yours. As an experiment, I mounted it to a 12” x 40” piece of 3/4” plywood I had laying around. It was pretty unstable; too small of a platform? After pricing, and lifting, a 4x8 sheet of 3/4” plywood, I pretty much gave up on the experiment as well as the kayak. Now, you’ve rekindled my interest. I wonder where you find FREE sheets of 3/4” plywood? How stable is it? Think you’d be able to stand on it now? Did you ever make a footrest? I’d imagine it would be a big improvement. I wish you had done a follow up video showing you paddling it and demonstrating the stability. Thanks for the video!

You could probably find plywood if you went around to a new construction site and asked around. It is very stable as long as the seat is attached directly to the plywood and not lifted up. I did stand up but it is not something I would suggest doing to fish. I will be doing a follow up video so keep an eye out for it.

any concern over time with the plywood rotting and getting mouldy due to exposure to water and sitting ontop of wet kayak bottom? (assuming water makes it in from paddles?waves)

The overall kayak is not wide enough to stand up and fish. It makes it top heavy and unsteady. The bottom Plywood allows a side seating area and moves you up far enough to make it easy to paddle, cast and land fish with no problem. Leaning over the side is no problem to land a fish.

Have you thought about some water protection for your wood floor?

It really doesn't get very wet just drips from the paddles on occasion. I really did this the most economical way I could so I didn't bother with carpet or anything. However one definitely could do that!

You think maybe a thick rubber mat would do just as good as the sheet of plywood? Im just curious im looking to get one of these but the plywood idea makes me nervous

Definitely not. The Plywood works amazing! If you want to put a seat in it you will need the support and also it allows you to get a little higher in the kayak to fish. Just make sure you router all the edges and your golden

What are the actual measurements of the plywood? I have the same kayak.

It's a full 8ft length but the width varies on each end. It looks similar to a surf board.

No, you will need to have some sort of solid bottom to secure the seat down. The bottom of these kayaks is just an inflatable portion.

No it is not a standing kayak. Not wide enough to combat the higher center of gravity while standing.
