For the return water flow I used a threaded4" pvc 90 degree and you get an awesome directional along side of the poolwall and you can direct it at the surface or futher down the wall help move any debree that tries to settle at the bottom edge of the pool.

That’s a great setup! I couldn’t find adapting parts either, so I went to Lowe’s and bought all 2 inch pipe and went over the side of the pool. I used a 1.25 inch pipe to my over the side skimmer. I had to make a support for the pipes to not break, but the flow is incredible. Now that it’s built, it will adapt to any new pool. I found the 1.25 inch pipe they give you fails pretty quickly and replacing it is an option, but I just re engineered it instead.

I'd changed a lot of my hoses to PVc, a few years ago. Im about to install a 21"/1.5hp Hayward setup and skimmer. When we had a 16' round Intex pool, i installed a skimmer and didn't cut the gasket. I mounted it and cut the hole, removed the skimmer, installed the gasket as designed then the skimmer. We had no leaks. I'm trying that again.

Turn that return jet down and away from the skimmer, and just keep that grated suction port closed. This will have ALL of the water in the pool moving towards the skimmer (which will be more powerful with the other suction port closed, as seen with the shark) Also next time you drain the water down, replace the Intex return jet with the Hayward one. All in all, nice job. These Intex pools are cheap, but come with a lot of downsides. Most Intex customers use them as a starting pool to see if they like it and I always warn them that Intex pools are more difficult to maintain because of those shortcomings

I should have watched your video. I followed another one where they traced out the gasket and then cut the hole. It was going great until the last inch when the razor knife went through like butter and made a slit a good 2 inches longer than my template! I had done another one like you did without any problems, but the video I watched said not to split the gasket. Well, we know how that went. Now I'm in the process of patching my two-inch slice past the marks.

Very helpful video. I’m awaiting our new pool, as well as Hayward skimmer. I would appreciate a couple of answers from you, if you have the time: Does the wall skimmer lower the water level a lot? What sand pump do you use? Mine is an intex , 14”, for a 16’x48” pool. And , most important, how is your bottom auto vacuum working? Can you tel me the brand and model you chose? Thank you!
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. 1. Yes, if you place it right under the top seam, you may loose a couple of inches in depth.. but the benefit far outweighs the loss In my opinion. 2. There is a link in the video description for the sand pump I used. 3. Ive used 2 different versions of vac in last little while.. the pentair little shark, it dose a decent job for the price, but tends to miss some Areas. I then went with maytronics dolphin E10 robot.. it covers the whole pool but cost a good bit more. It doesn’t get all the fine silt like the shark did, but the main system will get it when after the robot stirs it up.

Any tips on how to keep the inlet hose from leak where it connect to pump. Also the connection for the basket to pump
@jkpoynter Жыл бұрын
Question: why would you make twice the cuts by cutting the gasket in half? It doesn't save any time... compression seals the gasket when you draw the screws tight on the skimmer. In my opinion and experience, it only adds room for error.
@jkpoynter Жыл бұрын
Oh, I see now. You used the skimmer as a template to cut the pool liner. Gonna be honest man, if you fill it up to just below where you're cutting, it cuts really easy. I did mine without the proper water level, it really wasn't hard.
@Yellowdogsworld Жыл бұрын
I explained my logic on that in the video. Here’s a little more detail, with the weight of the water pulling on the side walls I did not want to run the risk of cutting the hole unsupported by the basket. If it distorted at all or tore worst case I’d have a ruined pool. To install the gasket in one piece you’d have to make the hole first insert the Gasket then install the filter. I guess you could do it without the water in the pool, but the side walls won’t be at their normal level of tension.. so again you may have the same problem.
@Yellowdogsworld Жыл бұрын
cool, thats good to know. I did not want to risk it, but it sounds like you were successful. I will keep that in mind on my next pool. From the sounds of it, either way you go about it, its going to work out fine.

When putting the 2 piece gaskets inside and out would it be wise to use some type of adhesive so the gaskets will seal to both sides of the liner, making an even more water tight seal, then put your plastic skimmer on then cut out the square hole?? It just seems that it might add more surface to grip to, especially since those screws are now going to be the only thing holding the 4 new edges in place, where there once was a solid liner...?
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
I’m not going to say that it would not help but I don’t know that it’s necessary. For example the other gaskets that seal the intake and output ports seal just fine without an additional adhesive. So far this set up has not leaked, and it’s clamped down pretty tight between the two parts of the skimmer. The trick would be figuring out what adhesive you could use that would not damage the liner. Any kind of petroleum based adhesive would probably damage the liner, And possibly the gasket.

Hello ………QUESTION I am thinking of doing this also. What would be the problem if I added the skimmer as you did and ran it directly to the pump. And plugged both original suction ports. All of the power from the pump would be concentrated at the skimmer.
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
The only thing you wouldn't have is an alternate path for the suction to pull from in case the filter became blocked by someone or something.

Hayward sells a few. "Aquacritter" is good one for the price. If you don't have a suction port to connect it to, Intex sells one that connects to the return line

Thanks so much for the video! Do you think the 3000 GPH pump COULD run the two inlets and skimmer basket simultaneously (if I wanted to keep both inlets in addition to the skimmer)?
@Yellowdogsworld3 жыл бұрын
Without trying it myself, I can't say for sure. The only thing you could possibly compromise is the skimmer's effectiveness. However, if you have a plunger valve on each port, you can always turn a port off, them your back to two :)

Does having that skimmer cause your pool to not be as deep now? So instead of 48 inches of water to you only have 44 now?
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
well, mine is about 43, but I could have placed it a couple inches higher in hind site.. so yes you may be looking at 44-45 inches.

Where did you get this inlet piece at 11:11? I don’t believe the Hayward kit or the sand filter pump came with this. Did you order this separate? Also, why not just leave the two inlets as is and Y them into your newly created Y. This way you would actually have 3 total intakes (two original plus skimmer) and no need to cut into liner at the 11:11 part. You also wouldn’t need to glue the stopper in the other intake. Thoughts?

For that part, there is a link to a couple of options in the description, unfortunately, at the moment they are way overpriced, eBay may be a good source to find one too. Running the 2 x 1.25 port's to the Intex T would work also, that's a good idea. Here are the reasons I went with this setup. I think it's a cleaner configuration, and the 1.25 hose is a clamp-on design that I've had get pulled off before just from the weight of the hose. The other way eliminates the clamp style connectors = No chance of a hose getting disconnected. Thanks for the input :)
@joshuascott30813 жыл бұрын
@@Yellowdogsworld True. I ended up pulling the trigger on the 2 x 1.25” T just to avoid cutter another hole in the liner. We will see how it works. Definitely more hoses to contend with and hopefully the smaller hoses won’t pull off the fitting. May have to glue them if the clamps fail. Thanks again for the video, I found it quite helpful.

@@joshuascott3081 about to do the same approach next week, did it end up working well for you? I'd love to avoid a laughably overpriced $70 for the additional inlet and just use the 2x 1.25" like you did.. let me know when you have a minute, appreciate it!

How much depth did u lose with the Hayward skimmer ?
@Yellowdogsworld8 ай бұрын
I think around 3 / 4 inches, In hindsight, I could have mounted it a little higher so I may have only lost a couple inches. This is the one sacrifice you have to make, and to be honest, it's been well worth it for how well it skims the pool.

@hubbabubba51773 жыл бұрын
Some skimmers have special plates, as far as I know the Hayward skimmer doesn't. Pool stores in your area should have "standard" covers for it. It's basically a piece of resin with foam that will slot into the hole of the skimmer. (or just put something inside that can soak up ice damage. A good one is an empty jug with a few cut up pieces of pool noodle)
@strykerdawn12 жыл бұрын
Question: why did you use the other "b" for outflow instead of just using the skimmer?
@KSMS10127 ай бұрын
We just use our skimmer but I’m finding we need to reconnect at least one of the other inlet valves that are lower than the skimmer to get the pool circulated better.

Yes "I think" the height that you mount the skimmer determines the pool water level.

@@Yellowdogsworld Thanks bro for the reply. I am planing to build one for kids; with them playing around; expecting lots of splashes; harder to maintain the water level. I will be looking into a wall mount skimmer too. it will take extra space of pool space though. thanks the awesome video!

@@Yellowdogsworld roughly how many inches of water level did you loose? I have a 2150gmh sand pump and using the stock clear inter tubes the past 3 seasons I feel like I’m not getting the full power out of my pump.
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
well, in hindsight I would have placed the skimmer right up to the seam at the top of the pool.. but realistically maybe 2 -to 3 inches of depth with the skimmer. I lost about 3 to 4 due to where ii mounted it. IMO the benefit you gain with the skimmer is worth the trade off.

On your scammer basket put a nylon bag over your catch Basket it will catch all the little stuff before it goes to your filter or your pump it helps keep it clean

Why do you have to assemble it in a non-reinforced area? Why can’t you just assemble it were the original skimmer was placed?
@Yellowdogsworld2 жыл бұрын
The skimmer has to be mounted at the top of the pool since it’s going to limit the depth of the pool to the height of the over flow on the skimmer.. so you don’t really have a choice in where to mount it.
