Native Texan here. I grew up eating beans (pinto) in chili. Beans stretched it. My mom was a single mom raising two girls on a limited budget. As an adult, I like it either way, and I will always defend beans in chili. Eat it how you like it. No food police here, not yet anyway! 🤠

Hey Aunt Mel. You don't know how much of a blessing you and your family, including KZbin family, are. Last week was a rough week here we had to say goodbye to our furbaby on Tuesday, then Wednesday I saw the neurologist about the tumor on my left temporal lobe and he wants to do more testing, and then Friday night I was admitted to the hospital. I was just released about an hour ago. I have to follow up with my regular doctor and GI doctor. I ask y'all to please continue to pray for us. Thank you in advance. God Bless.

To any young or just inexperienced cooks out there- I recommend that whenever you are making something like coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, etc., do yourself a favor & make the dressing part in another bowl than the one all your main salad ingredients are in. Especially when the directions call for seasonings to be added "to taste". If you add the dressing ingredients to the mix before actually making them into a dressing, you could easily over-do the seasonings. Mix some up, taste it, then, if you like how it tastes, go ahead & mix it into the salad ingredients. If you don't have quite enough dressing to make the salad as "wet" as you like, you can just mix up a bit more & add it till you get the consistency how you like it. Cooking is alot of trial & error. But it's best to do things like salads in the way I suggested, so you don't end up making something you don't like, & then having to waste food. Once you get the hang of making a particular dish, you'll easily be able to make it without any fuss. Good luck to all the new cooks out there! 😊

I made you crockpot potatoes as a meal and omitted the bacon and added a ring of diced kielbasa. Added green peppers, too and it made for a wonderful dinner on a very hot night! Thanks for the base recipe!!

Hi Mel! I'm all in for cookout/barbeque food. The fact these recipes are done in the crock pot is even better. You are truly an endless supply of delicious and different recipes! You make cooking much more fun and interesting. While I have my tried and true recipes that stay in the rotation, I love trying new things. I have got to try the marinated hot dogs with chili sauce. Loved the use of the split screen with the ingredients! Thanks for taking the time to do that extra step. When you said, "the innards of my crock pot"..I had to smile. I thought "Yep...she is a southern girl"...lol. It reminded me of being in Ohio and the waitress recommended a special of something...and I had not heard of it. She brought a plate and showed it to us...and I said something about looked like "innards" of a hog...and she had no idea what "innards" were...lol. Once again, everything looked great. I can't wait to try those potatoes with bacon..YUM! I bet the marinated hot dogs would be great in baked beans. Even use the marinade in the beans. Bake them until hot and I think they would be awesome! I'm not from Texas, but here in Virginia chili with beans goes over cornbread. Chile with no beans goes on a hot dog. I'm a 7th-generation Texan and we always have pinto beans with chili, but they're served on the side (even in the same bowl sometimes). The beans are seasoned just a bit differently than the chili, so that's why we cook them separately. Regardless, they're a match made in heaven! ;D ;D

I don't even eat hotdogs and they had me drooling. We just bought a Weber charcoal kettle and grilled some chicken and steaks Saturday. Every dish looks satisfying 😊. My hubby doesn't eat chocolate, p'nut butter, nuts and lots of other good foods because of the high oxalate count in them, it causes kidney stones to develop in him. The reason behind no beans in the chili in Texas is it’s always about the beef. You really want to taste beef. I’ll tell you what though I live in Texas and I love beans in my chili. Those dogs look good. I’m going to try them

I love your channel. However, I live alone and also take crockpot recipes and put them in my instant pot because I'm never a morning person. 😅 My stepfather was from Texas and always cooked a pot of pinto beans on the side of his chili (which didn't have tomatoes, another Texas argument). However, my sister is a vegetarian so I do make vegetarian chili with beans not meat but when you make vegetarian food things are just weird 😅

@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I'm hanging in there but my blood pressure has been staying super low,it will go in the 70's so Eark gives me a sodium hydrochloride and it's crazy b/c i have high blood pressure and on 2 high bp meds,i have an appt. i think Wed. or Fri. with a cardiologist and to get an echocardiagram,it's for a 2nd dr. opinion b/c another dr. said my heart is enlarged and that i have chf and i get my 2nd bladder botox,my kidneys and liver are bad,liver is where i've taken so much tylenol products and pain meds have acetaminophen in them,I hope you have a wonderful and blessed week sweet friend.🥰💙💞

I wonder if you added in some maraschino cherries cut in half if the crockpot cake( instead of the marshmallows and graham crackers), would have tasted like a chocolate covered cherry! Or a chocolate cherry cake. Then served it with a cherry ice cream, topped with some whipped cream and topped with some of the mini chocolate chips and a cherry on top. 😂 Just a very indulgent thought!

I was so pleasantly surprised with that dish, it was the first time I ever did anything bacon wrapped in the crockpot and it turned out really great. I've baked and grilled bacon wrapped stuff but this was an experiment for me LOL

I'm so happy that you're here too, thank you for watching. And I do use them sometimes, but when I'm filming something to show you I just think they get in the way of that. I want you to be able to see the best possible view of everything so I don't mind washing the crock pot liner LOL. I love them for the holidays and for potlucks though - they are a life saver!

I have 2 of the 6qt oval crockpots and a 3qt round crockpot. Can I do the cake in the 3qt? Can hardly wait to fix the potatoes and the bacon apple chicken. They looked delicious..

I feel like it would work in the 3 qt, maybe need just a little longer cook time. But I've just never had good luck making them in my 6qt oval. Hope you love it and thanks for watching ❤️

I tried the bacon chicken bbq, but mine didn’t turn out like yours! Lots of liquid cooked out of my meat leaving my chicken swimming in liquid. The bacon wasn’t appetizing at all. I put it in a baking dish and broiled it. Not a bad outcome, but not what I was hoping for. 😟

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that, but glad you could salvage it. Who knows, all crockpots do cook differently, but your chicken might have been larger than what I used, or even the weather might have affect it LOL Thanks for watching and I hope you have better luck with some of the other crockpot recipes.

These are wonderful summer recipes. These recipes don't make us stand out in the heat cooking or in the kitchen frying or cooking in the hot oven. I've been looking for a good hot dog chili sauce. New Mexico has the same controversy as Texas. Do you want your chili with beans in it or without beans in it? Haha!

Hello👋 I have a quick question. Do you put a towel in between the lid and the crockpot when making the lava cakes? Or does the moisture really not make a difference in the lava cake? I want to make it but Ive read somewhere that a towel helps capture the extra moisture. I havent seen you do that

I don't and I don't think it would make much difference because they're moist anyway. Now if you were baking bread the paper towel is probably a really great idea! Seems like I did use a paper towel one time, but for the life of me I can't remember what I was making LOL
