Thanks for the feedback. You'll need 12-weight rods and reels. We use the Lamson Cobalt and CenterFire reels, which have the breaking strength needed to subdue a big GT.

Hello, I'm going there for my honeymoon, but we don't have much money. I have a question whether I would be able to catch anything there on my own (I mean larger fish). Do I need money for a boat, a guide, etc.? Can I, for example, rent a kayak and fish, or maybe go into the water a few meters from the shore and catch something? :) Can I ask for some tips on which island will be best for fishing (I have a fly rod and a spinning rod) Thank you for your answer and best regards.

Hi. You might be able to do some DIY fly fishing around the main island, Mahe. Here, you're likely to find bluefin trevally, a few bonefish, and maybe even a permit. However, the fishing on the outer atolls - including Farquhar - is run by Alphonse Fishing Company. Enjoy your stay!
