To jump from a balancing robot to the "End Of Humans" is an illogical leap. Unlike the cubli's leap- which is entirely logical! I'm so grateful that you had Gaja explain the brakes. I want to build something like this, but had no indication there were brakes involved.

Yes, scanning old patents and modernizing the presentation is becoming too common.

That was really cool and very surprising what can be done by this small robot.

The correct sized version of this inside of a shell that looks like the Hellraiser puzzle box would be awesome.

Actually this would likely be used for stabilizing satellites in orbit. It behaves just like the CMG's on satellites do.

Using braking torque as a form of stored energy to instantly rotate the cube is pretty clever.. :D I bet you could integrate this concept into many unrelated devices.. brake wear being the only potential issue but it could be solved on a case by case basis.. thanks for posting!

I was so amazed the cubbies cube I decided to buy one for my son. I finally received it but it only has directions in Chinese. Can anyone help me with directions on how to program it? I have connected the usb to my laptop but don’t know what drivers and programming interface I need to install.

Definitely a better humanity. Although there will be massive growing pains. Once technology hits a point where most, if not all our needs are met from independent machines, we can begin to truly thrive as a species and pursue enlightenment.

DarkYogurt We're already lazy fucks, we'll just be able to be who we really are. But more seriously, just because we won't have to do all the same jobs anymore, doesn't mean we'll all be lazy. Lazy means unwilling to use energy. In this possible scenario of a future where we have machines doing all our work, we'll either use our energy elsewhere (hobbies for example), or there's simply nothing to do because machines are doing everything (which means we're unable, not unwilling).

I love the comment below "It's just a great demonstration of Physics really. Nothing good or bad about it really, just creativity in a more sophisticated manner.". This is commonly heard at nearly any new revolutionary idea, the computer, telephone, GPS, texting instead of calling, microwave ovens, phased array radio transmission,...How embarrassing! How about kinetic energy weapon steering satellite to satellite. automated docking ISS to Space X dragon capsule. precision orientation self guiding "floating hand tools" for manufacturing, 360 degree auto-sentry gun aiming system. Some of these are scary but obvious options. Any rapid tracking and precision orientation application, Awesome.

How about filming MORE of the actual subject (the balancing cube) and a little less of the talking man. Play his dialogue over cube footage maybe? This footage needs to be not only informative but entertaining and talking heads are rarely that! Focus on the subject cube since that's what it was all about to begin with.
