I watched this wonderful lesson this morning with my first coffee and it has been a great way to start my day. Fresh eyes and ears inspired by your explanation of the intrigue of nocturnes. Nocturnes are the monthly topic of my pastel teacher and she recommended to all to watch this video. I have been a subscriber to your channel for awhile and am trying to watch everything you have on youtube. The relevance to pastel is excellent and I always learn from you. Thank you so very much!

Dianne this night scene is perfect , very nice. Spot on and very real looking for such a small painting. You captured the way the moonlight looks when it hits the grass . I've always loved the way the natural world looks in the woods at night where the only light is the moon. You captured this simply and perfectly. Many thx , and well wishes for you continued work.

This was the first video I clicked on for a nocturnal painting- and it was EXTREMELY helpful!! I’m having people in my night scene (inspired by a book) and I want them illuminated by the meteors that’s above them. Which is a bit of a challenge for me, especially since I’ve never done a night painting. This helps a lot thank you!!

Hi Dianne, Thanks so much for this wonderful lesson. It really was amazing to see your little nocturne come to life in a matter of minutes! ! I recently painted a nocturne (before having seen this video) and, having done it from my imagination, I'm not sure if it looks like something one would actually observe in real life. :) Sadly, I can't share it with you here... That said, I really appreciate your helpful tip, Dianne. It will help me in the future, I'm sure!

What a nice little painting you did, and so quickly! I'm tempted to do some night paintings just because they're so easy (relatively), and they're very appealing, to my eye anyway. It's sort of the way Starry Night gets your attention, maybe because it's not just your standard daylight sky, trees and grass that you see all the time in paintings. The night also seems to draw you in and holds your attention, maybe because of a primal instinct to see what's there in the dark. Anyway, nice tutorial, thanks.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction5 жыл бұрын
If you want to do some night paintings, one thing that will help is to observe at nighttime what the moonlight is doing as well as other lights (such as street lights). How are the effecting what you are seeing?
@ATINKERER5 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I did that last night. I was surprised to see that the halo of light around the moon was a rainbow! Never noticed that before. I guess it all has to do with the moister in the air. Closest to the moon the halo was blue, then it turned the slightest bit yellow, and lastly it was red. Good to know. I'll take a good look at street lights at night the first chance I get. Thank you so much for the kind response. Given the fact that I live in NYC, I'm not used to that!

Whatever is in backlight will be in shadow from the observer's viewpoint. Remember, it's the light source's location and what it is doing that causes shadow.
