Was that Leroy or Frankie running the handle? Amazing how fast he was, left handed and all, working those big chunks!! That splitter is just the right speed for big chunks and 6 hands in the way!! - Since it doesn't seem to matter much about the fw length, you could cut those real big rounds shorter, make 'em easier to load AND split!! As for the tractor, you already KNOW, he does like free stuff!! You're right about the work table. If it was just the slightes bit downhill, it would work like a vibrating conveyor! Easy to add a chunk lift to it!! - I can see now, what an awful PAIN it is to move!! Sympathies!!

That John Deer is one heck of a little tractor. Kenny is one hell of a operator too. Also that Subaru motor on the splitter is a great motor. Had one of the only ones I have ever seen on my old Ariens snowblower which was the 10.0 version. That thing started no matter how cold it was outside with two primes, no choke and 1 pull every time. Good morning gentlemen. Is it safe to assume that this late in the season, the factor that determines how big your splits are is how big a piece can a person comfortably load into that monster? I mean, it seems obvious that the wood you're splitting is almost ready to burn, and for a boiler, the bigger the better to control the burn rate, correct?
@InTheWoodyard2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, the size is determined by how much work we don't want to do! And if it will fit it is good enough!

Chris would be able to heat his home and or office with a wood boiler. If I get my new house and shop build I will have a wood boiler. Great video. I bet Chris wood yard is getting lonely since he not been there in a week. LOL take a 1/4 rod and weld along edge of tray and it will keep wood from getting in the way. have a great day be safe

Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. There was no steam rising from the Big Bertha splitter, unlike Kenny! His splitter is impressive and proves you don't need massive engines to produce the goods. I split hundreds of cords with a vertical splitter powered by a 9hp Robin engine. Like Kenny, my preference is for a tall narrow knife, regularly sharpened. Even at that speed, if you can keep the ram moving at all times you are producing big volumes of firewood in a more relaxed and safer manner than if the speed was greater.
